Overview

Over Her Dead Body (Bailey Weggins Series #4) by Kate White

New York Times bestselling author and former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Kate White knows firsthand that the magazine business is murder.

The smart and gutsy crime writer Bailey Weggins returns for a case set against the glossy pages of a celebrity rag where somebody is about to give Bailey's new boss a lethal deadline. Talk about rapid turnover-in a matter of days Bailey Weggins gets axed from one New York magazine and hired by another. Her new job at Buzz, a weekly filled with sizzling gossip, has Bailey covering celebrity crime, including the starlet who got caught stuffing Fendi purses down her pants and the aging hunk who shot his lover with a Magnum.

Bailey doesn't have to look far for her next story: she finds her boss, Mona Hodges, gasping her last breath after being bludgeoned with a blunt object. A raging tyrant, Mona made Buzz a top 'zine but racked up an impressive list of enemies along the way. Everyone from a chubby singer she dubbed "Fat Chance" to a mail guy she once reamed out would be glad to see Mona six feet under. And Bailey Weggins intends to get the scoop on whodunit even though one of her closest friends is at the top of the suspects list.

With her strappy sandals in one hand and her cell phone in the other, Bailey's out hunting for clues everywhere from the mean streets of Brooklyn's Little Odessa to a posh company picnic in the Hamptons. In just about a New York minute she's got a crush on a sexy filmmaker-and some scary insight into her boss's murder. The first can give her the hot summer fling she's itching to have. The second can get her killed...

So, since I was old enough to read I fell in love with the Nancy Drew Files. You really have no idea how much I loved those books...while others were playing my little pony, I was reading about jewel theives in Rome. I have found great sadness in the fact that as I have grown into an adult, I haven't been able to take Nancy with me. It just isn't quite the same. So, I ABSOLUTELY love that I have discovered the Bailey series. It brings me back to the same rush and love I found in the Nancy Drew mysteries I so cherished as a child. READ THESE IF YOU LOVE A GOOD MYSTERY AND IF YOU WANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE CHARACTER TOO...and have a cocktail while you read it--you'll feel like you are having a drink with Bailey yourself :) Thank you, Kate White!

In a Greenwich Village café, Gloss magazine editor Cat Jones informs her human interest-crimes contributor Bailey Weggins that they no longer want her services as the publication is going to concentrate on bliss not buzz. Desperate, Bailey asks her friend Robby Hart, senior editor at Buzz magazine, if he has any leads for a job. To her amazement he hires hire to provide articles on celebrity crime.--- Bailey is taken aback at Buzz when she first encounters the big boss Mona Hodges, who yells, curses and demeans her staff before eating her chicken salad sandwich and then goes back to yell, curse and demean her staff again. Not long after Bailey starts, Mona stunningly fires Robby. Soon after that, Bailey finds Mona¿s battered corpse late at night in the office. The police suspect Robby killed Mona in a fit of unemployment rage. Bailey knows her friend could not harm anyone, so using her journalistic investigative skills; she begins her own inquiries into who killed the she devil boss.--- OVER HER DEAD BODY is an entertaining journalistic investigative tale starring a likable heroine (see 'TIL DEATH DO US PART, A BODY TO DIE FOR and IF LOOKS COULD KILL). The story line is fast-paced at first in a breezy manner but quickly turns into a dangerous sleuthing endeavor for the intrepid reporter. Mona is a stereotype of the ¿queen of mean¿ so that everyone within her circle of ugliness wants her dead. Thus Bailey efforts to prove someone other than Robby committed homicide seems overwhelming for her, but not for series fans who will enjoy Kate White¿s latest tale refreshed by a new magazine cover.--- Harriet Klausner

This is book two of the Bailey Weggins series. Bailey gets fired from her job as a freelance writer at a womens' magazine only to have to take a job at a celebrity gossip magazine. It doesn't take long for a body to drop at here feet. It was pretty good. Lea Thompson narrated it.

I enjoyed the way this book was written. Even though it was over 300 pages, it moved along nicely and held my interest throughout the entire read.

I was so disappointed in this book. It was totally mindless. If Ms. White took longer than an hour to throw this together, she wasted her time as well as mine. Do not allow her to waste your time. I had so enjoyed the previous books in this series that I was really looking forward to this book and went to my book store the day it was released in paperback - I no longer buy hard back books. I was so totally disappointed that I am not sure if I will bother with any further books from this woman.

I did like this book but i was slightly disappointed in the end it didnt have as much ummphh as the others in the series. i felt a need for more suspense and twists. i still recommend this series is great. as like any series there is gonna be a little disappointment. i think she might of lost her touch but i read in her newsletter she has taken some time off for the 5th book to write how to set his thighs on fire and in doing that she has felt insipred so i am excited to read the 5th book which should come out summer 2007 !!!!
