If I could move into a book and live in it's universe it would in one of the Silverbush books. I've loved LM Montgomery's books from childhood up, but these are so comfortable and homey. It's the literary equivalent of a cup of hot chocolate and a warm bed on a cold January night.

Pat Gardner loves her home more than anything else. She doesn't like change, but when her Irish cook, and friend, Judy Plum tells her that her mother is going to have a fifth and last baby, Pat, at seven, fears this new addition. But as Pat learns the new baby was the first of many changes in young her life. The book follows Pat Gardner's life from seven through adulthood. It is filled with colorful characters form her family, Judy Plum, and a little boy, Shingle, who hasn't seen his mother since she remarried. Another friend Pat can't bear to let go, and her first love. Growing up is harder than Pat thought, but will she change as everyone else around her does, or will she be as stable and unchangeable as her dear home, Silver Bush? While the story is filled with descriptions, of forests and tress in true Montgomery style, this is a book worth reading. You can also finish reading about the changes in Pat's life in Mistress Pat.
