As usual, Grace Amberson is designated driver for the bachelorette party. But the bride-to-be has too much to drink, and Grace finds herself stuck at the bar with Andy Pleasant. They connect wonderfully, but Andy has one drink too many . The next day all he can remember is Grace's first name and that she can be found in church most Sundays. Problem is, he doesn't know which church. With this thin lead, Andy begins searching for Grace, but the clock is ticking. Grace is seriously considering a move away from her loving but meddlesome family. She also wants some space from her wealthy, possessive boyfriend. Just when things begin to fall into place for Grace, she is pulled out of a promising job interview by a panicked call from her mother. Grace's bird-loving father has been arrested for shooting a BB gun at a neighbor's bothersome cat. As Andy searches for Grace, he and his best friend Marcus McCarthy must deal with a brother's death and tenuous holds on their own jobs. They are both rescued by Tracey Fort-Benning, whose talents include everything but successful relationships with men. For Grace, Andy, Tracey and the many characters of Perfect, it looks like nothing is going to be simple, or perfect.

I had in mind a book that I could read before going to bed that wouldn't give me nightmares or make me want to eat. I didn't want to write something where I'd be double checking the locks and looking under the bed.

In the world where I live, daily life has more to do with finding and holding jobs and friends than dealing with rare, once in a lifetime events. Writing a book with such a premise, however, turned out to be easier said than done. On the third or fourth rewrite I put a crime in the book as a subplot. It helped with the structure and pace of the book, but I didn't end up fully accomplishing my objective of showing how captivating the ebbs and flows of ordinary life can be. So, I'm working on that now in my sequel to Perfect.

The characters in Perfect evolved over the several years that I wrote the book. The first working title of Perfect was "A Month of Sundays." The early drafts focused on Andy finding Grace in church. I actually
