Their names remain part of mariner history and take us back to the days of great sea adventures, salty talk, partying and searching for fortune in gold, silver, ships and virtually anything of value. Some pirates were very successful in their careers but most were at best average pirates and would never achieve a fearsome reputation. In any case, few escaped the hangman’s noose or the broadsword of a determined pirate hunter.
Pirates also were, in their own way, quite democratic in how the ship was run. The Council controlled many of the activities and routines aboard the ship — even the captain could had to follow the decisions of the Council.
This is their story.
But it’s more than a biography of famous pirates. I’m fascinated with how they lived and how they pursued their career.
You’ve heard about various pirate legends...walking the plank, buried treasure parrots and the ubiquitous eye patch. Are these legends real or myths? You’ll discover what was like aboard a pirate ship — from a pirate’s strict code of conduct to the punishments that awaited those that broke the codes. I’ve even included some pirate food and drink (alcoholic) recipes you can try.
Here’s a bit of what you’ll find inside:
