Praying for Girls is a great resource that I know I will refer back to often throughout my motherhood journey with my daughter, but even though it is geared towards praying for our girls, some of the prayers I can also use for my sons. Not only does she teach us how to pray for our daughters, Teri Lynne also reminds us that even though we are adults now that many of these struggles our girls are battling are still very true in our lives as well. All of her prayers for moms spoke directly to my heart and what I am going through. I love the applications, "Girl Talk," she has at the end of each section to teach us how to apply what we've read in helping our daughters at various stages to center them in Christ and help them navigate the world and their place in it in relation to Christ. I have a daughter with high anxiety and the section on praying for our girls minds especially spoke to me. Teri Lynne wrote "Here is what I do when I find fear is gaining a stronghold in my thoughts: I write them out, no matter how crazy or unlikely they are. And then I write over them what God's Word says. I cover my fears and anxieties with the truth of His Word. Even when I don't feel it, I choose to believe it." I had never thought to do this with my daughter, but it is something I plan to encourage her to do in hopes that it will help her find peace when her anxiety takes over her mind and thoughts. Teri Lynne is such a blessing, so full of encouragement. I did not grow up in the church, so I never learned how to pray nor did I learn scripture. I became Catholic when I got engaged and vowed that I would teach our children what I never learned as a child and to root them in God's word and how to pray and look towards God in all things. This book has helped me tremendously in learning what prayers to pray over my daughter and when as well as versus to refer to. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! Praying for Girls by Teri Lynne Underwood should be on every mom’s reading list! But, beyond moms, every woman who has any influence on girls – be it family, friend, mentor, teacher, leader, or other guiding role – should also pick up this book. I do not have children, so I read Praying for Girls from a different perspective than the intended audience. Nevertheless, I found Underwood’s writing and content challenging and inspiring. I could take the recommendation one step farther and say that every woman should read Praying for Girls, if only for a reference of how to pray for ourselves and protect our own hearts and minds. Underwood carefully presents several aspects of life that warrant dedicated prayer. Not only does she describe the aspect (identity, heart, mind, relationship, purpose), but she includes a myriad of prayers to pray over daughters, friends, mentees, students – even ourselves! She also incorporates suggestions of how to involve girls in your prayers; creative ways to show them what you are praying for and how it relates to their everyday life. Underwood even delineates ideas for girls based on age-ranges. I think Praying for Girls is a powerful tool to lead women in dedicated prayers for the women of the next generations. I highly recommend Praying for Girls as a resource for women of all walks of life, but especially moms and women involved directly with young girls. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in order to write an honest, unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

How many Christian moms, aunts, teachers, sisters, grandmothers, mentors pray for the girls in their lives? And how many of these adults struggle with what to pray for them sometimes? The girls are so much younger and deal with things the adults can't always understand. Whether you are someone looking to pray for a girl in a particular situation or just pray for their well-being, this book is for you. Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most is a book that endeavors to do just that. It gives practical tips and suggestions for praying for the girls in your life. Each chapter focuses on a particular topic and contains tips for praying and teaching, word-for-word prayers, applicable Bible verses, examples from the author's own experience, and a section just for the moms of those girls. Praying for Girls was a book I found enlightening and helpful. Though it was catered to the moms of the girls, I'm not a mom myself, not yet. But I am an older sister and a friend to younger girls who need my prayers. And it isn't only the girls who could use the verses and "lessons" from this book. It opens to a section on understanding who you are in Christ, which was a helpful reminder to myself as much as it is an essential topic to teach the girls in our lives. Praying for Girls is a very useful book for assisting women in how to pray for the girls in their lives. I recommend it. I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is packed with funny, heart-touching stories, examples, and most importantly, Scripture-based prayers to pray over our daughters! Prayer topics covered include: her identity; her heart; her mind; her relationships, and her purpose. Subtopic prayers include: being accepted; purity; love; being kept; content; renewal; guarded; peaceful; humility; wisdom; generosity; salvation; sanctification; being steadfast, and sharing. Underwood offers up some of her struggles, her daughter's struggles and more to help us relate as moms who all deal with similar if not dead on the issues we all face. She lays out Scripture for us to pray over our girls in all these areas. She reminds us to remind ourselves sometimes we really need to let go and let God. Sometimes, as hard as it may be, we need to pray for our daughter, then get out of God's way so he can work. "Our daughter's long to be accepted, to be chosen, Little girls want to know how much to you love them. Big girls want to be reassured they can't do anything to lose your love." "Our prayers are a powerful instrument for shaping our girl's hearts to mirror the heart of Christ."

Teri Lynne writes from the tender place of remembering what it was like to be a girl and also from and equally tender place of being Mom to a girl of her own. She invites the reader into her experiences and then offers sections geared to cover every aspect of your girl’s growing up. With sections titled Prayers for Her Identity, Prayers for Her Heart, Prayers for Her Mind, Her Relationships and Her Purpose, she equips us with ways to feed our daughters spirit and deepen her relationship with God. As Mom’s we understand the importance of feeding our children healthy meals designed to nourish their growing bodies, making sure they get the rest they need, and feeding their minds. It is as-if not more-important to feed and care for their spiritual hearts and bodies. I know this is a book designed specifically for girls but without hesitation I would recommend it for anyone with a child in their lives. The prayerful pursuit of God in our children’s lives is never wasted and just like we can never stop being their Mom’s, we should never stop praying for them.
