Overview

Who will be lost to the dark?

Thomas Ward has served as the Spook's apprentice for three years. He has battled boggarts, witches, demons, and even the devil himself. Tom has enemies: The Fiend stalks him, waiting for a moment of weakness. The terrifying Morrigan, goddess of witches, warned him never to set foot on her homeland, Ireland.

But now war has consumed their own country, and Tom, his friend Alice, and the Spook must flee to Ireland. The dark rages strongly there. No one can be trusted. Can Tom defeat the creatures that hunt him most fiercely?

I started reading this series about a year ago and since then, I have been completely addicted. This series is great. This book is one of my favorites from this series because of the constant action. It brings a start of an end to a major enemy of Tom Ward, the main character, but leaves you with an intense curiosity at the end of the book. Alice, Tom's ally and great friend, also takes a great role in this book. This book also changes its usual setting and takes place in Ireland, which holds many unknown creatures and monsters for the Spook, Tom, and Alice to deal with. Overall, this is a great book and you must check it out! :)

This book is amazing and it's my favorite book in The Last Apprentice series. In the main character Tom faces more challenges against witches, demons, dark mages, and The Fiend. The book has more danger and suspense than other books. Action is more crazy when Tom must face The Fiend in order to save Alice from his evil clutches.Tom gets more stronger in this book it's great for fans of the series. You should really get this book while you have the chance.

My son Matthew says: I thought it was a great book. It had me wondering what might happen next. It was scary at parts but really wasn't that bad. The characters are very well developed and have interesting traits. I recommend it to somebody looking for a good scary book.

You know you've got a great series when after you've finished the 8th book to a series you're still craving more! I finished this book in one go. I could not put it down. Of course I didn't finish reading until 3a.m. which left my heart pumping and too scared to even want to sleep or be in the dark. I LOVE this series!

This is the 8th book in The Last Apprentice series and it was even more fantastic than the previous books. Another spin-off of this series called I am Grimalkin (UK release) is supposed to be released later this year which I am looking forward and Delaney is working on book 9 of this series as well. So, no idea how many more books in this series...but honestly I hope it goes on forever! The Spook, Tom, and Alice have fled to Ireland. They hope to meet up with Grimalkin and take care of the Fiend once and for all. Things are never easy though and Tom finds himself hunted by the very witch he thought he destroyed in the last book (or is it?). Our three unlikely heroes also end up meeting up with some locals who want their help in preventing a dark ceremony that will summon the God Pan to create chaos. Will they be able to hold the Fiend and all of his dark minions at bay? What about the darkness and war that is threatening to consume the land. This was a wonderful book. Both Tom and Alice are coming into their powers nicely. They both are taking on more responsible and find themselves in more dire situations than ever. This is a very dark book, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. They do finally confront the Fiend in this book and what a confrontation it is! The second half of the book has a lot more Grimalkin, she is my absolute favorite in this series, and it was so awesome to read more about here. It is also interesting to watch how the Spook reacts as he gets further and further drawn into the dark magic that threatens to consume Alice and Tom. This was an absolutely awesome book. The writing style is wonderful to read; very gothic yet easy to read and such wonderful descriptions and characters. The drawings throughout are creepy and stunning. This is a book that is dark, but never gets too scary. The book ended well and it looks like we are in store for yet more adventures for our travelers.Overall an absolutely fantastic addition to this series. I loved some of the turns this story took, loved how Alice and Tom are developing as characters, and loved that Grimalkin was in the story more. I really do hope this series goes on for a bit longer, it is one of those rare series that has consistently spectacular books. If you haven't read this series and you like adventure with monsters and a bit of creepy you have got to check this series out. It is a fantastic read for middle grade and up.

I was a little skeptical after I read the last book in the Last Apprentice series, Rise of the Huntress. Well, okay, so I've been a little skeptical about this series for the past two-ish books. I've been a big fan ever since the beginning. The uniquely dark, scary and downright awesome nature of this series completely intruged me, and I felt like this series finally got witches and monsters, etc. right -they are to be feared and controlled more than anything else. Delaney's quick, crisp writing and fast-paced plots certainly helped. But, I feel like the story has been going around in circles for a little while now, almost like we're stuff in a cycle of side stories! But, Rage of the Fallen put things back on track with an explosive and game-changing ending.Still far from the county, the Spook, Tom and Alice come to a town with a big problem -not to mention some dark secrets of its own. As Tom and co. work to get rid of the town's monster problems, Alice is kidnapped and taken to the realm of the Fiend, where no mortal dares go -or returns from. With the help of a strange old god, Tom seeks a way to bring Alice back while fighting off Grimilkin, the infamous witch assassin, dark cults and even the Fiend himself in a showdown that will change the very future of the dark.As fast-paced and eerily haunting as Last Apprentice fans expect, the overarching plot finally moves ahead in Rage of the Fallen in very serious ways. Not only does he finally deal with the Fiend, but Alice goes through some interesting and unexpected character growth that will leave a mark on her for the rest of the series. I was so incredibly pleased to see this, as it seems to have been an issue with this series recently. For a good portion of the novel I was actually a little worried it may end up as an side story, but once the action really started to take off, I found that I was dead wrong. As dark, creepy and thoroughly exciting as previous novels, Rage of the Fallen gave me renewed faith in the Last Apprentice series and left me desperate for more!
