I enjoy reading novels by Vannetta Chapman. I've read all of the Amish novels that she has written and now that she is writing dystopia novels (an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one) I'm in a whole new world. Raging Storm is a great title for this story. In a world that has gone haywire after a solar flare literally takes out all of the electronic systems. No electricity! No phones! No computers! No life! Actually, no life is how many people see the solar flare. Stores have closed and are now bare because of looters. But there are people who can and will survive by doing all they can to help others. Then there are those people who will take all they can because it benefits them. Life has changed dramatically! Cooking has become a bare bones necessity. Vehicles with computer chips simply won't run. Highways are clogged with abandoned vehicles. And there are no phone systems, so communication is limited. Shelby and her high school sweetheart, Max, decide that they must go to Austin (yes, this story takes place in Texas!) to find insulin for Shelby's son, Carter. This trip to find insulin is the story of chaos in a world gone insane. Police are no longer in the picture. There is chaos everywhere. Every man trying to take care of his own family. I loved this story! My heart was racing as I ran with Shelby and Max, I looked around every corner making sure that all was clear. And when those "bad" men came along I held my breath with Shelby. Such an intense read! I will warn you, though, once you begin reading this story you'll want to finish it, all in the same setting. This action packed, gotta survive thriller is one of those I.Can't.Put.Down.Books! Really! But don't take my word for it . . . go read it for yourself. *This book was provided for review by Harvest House*

This. Book. Vannetta has done it again! This is book 2 in the Remnant Series. It is a MUST read. If you haven't read book 1, please do. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, you will want to know the characters as book 2 opens. After a major solar flare, civilization as we know is in for a rocky ride! As Shelby sets out with Max, Bianca and Patrick to find insulin for her son, although they expect trouble, they are in for some real big adventures, beyond what one would imagine. Vannetta Chapman's research must have been so intense. I felt as though I was there experiencing whatever Shelby and her group faced. It was amazing and I couldn't put it down. Reading in bed with a flashlight kind of book! The writing was professional, engaging and so very intense. Book 3 can't come soon enough for me! I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my review. All thoughts are my own.

The Raging Storm ( The Remnant Series-Book 2 ) By: Vannetta Chapman The Raging Story is book two in The Remnant series by Vannetta Chapman. I have read the first book Deep Shadows and the E book novella Overshadowed . I have really loved them all . I would tell you that you need to read this series in order to fully understand the story. A massive solar flare has hit and wiped out all the globe. Cars ,Banks, drugstores , grocery stores all are no longer running, opened ,are even there. Everywhere you go there is places burning and the smoke is so bad that I felt like I was smelling it just reading. No police to protect you. This series really got to me and it made me think that I am not stocked up and prepared for this to happen. I need to go to the stores. When I got started reading Raging Storm I did not want to put it down till the end , WOW, and then I was crying for more. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Chapman draws you in at the start and then you are hooked. I would advise you to find your favorite reading place and start reading, but don't forget to breathe and hang on for you life. Shelby , her best friend Max, and three more start out on a journey to Austin Texas to hunt for some insulin for Carter, Shelby’s son who is a type 1 diabetes and needs his insulin to live. They go up against all kinds of problems on their journey. Will they all survive and can they find what they are looking for? I was given a copy of this book by Harvest House publishers and the author, but I was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

"Riveting" is a highly over-used adjective in book reviews...except when it comes to a novel like this second one in Vannetta Chapman's Remnant series. Couldn't put it down! Four close friends face danger in a world gone mad as they search for insulin for a teenage son. Against all odds, they finally procure a year's supply, only to face unexpected loss and heartache. But perseverance and sacrificial love are two things they haven't run out of in this post-flare world - will they be enough to survive? This is a tremendous love story: the love of a mother for her child, the love of friends for each other, and the love of people for their community. Faith and loyalty is tested as everything that seemed "normal" before a solar flare knocked out technology is suddenly history. Not my usual genre, but CAN'T WAIT for the third and final book of this fascinating series.

Once you turn that first page and get your bearings, remembering the first book Deep Shadows and the solar flare that put us where we are today. I felt like I was reading a movie and I was one of the participants, and there were bullets whizzing past my head, and found myself ducking. Can you imagine even where you live; no more power and nothing with computer chips working? How would you survive, do we have the skills to, and found myself questioning my abilities, I do live in the country and have acreage, and a pond with fish. While you think about surviving the author reminds us that there is someone out there that wants all that you have even if they don’t need it, and will use all means to take it. There is no law, and the false profits have arisen in abundance, who to trust. I have one big complaint, I was reading along and page turning, when boom, it was like I fell off a cliff, and I tried to turn another page, but there wasn’t anymore, now I am bidding my time for the next book, which can’t come fast enough. I received this book through Net Galley, the Author, and the Publisher Harvest House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if some cosmic activity, such as a solar flare, were to knock out all power, all technology? You can't plug in your microwave or start your car or make a phone call. Vanetta Chapman wondered all those things and has written an amazing book, Raging Storm. Small town Texas, it happened, a solar flare and no one expected this...the total chaos, friends turning on friends, complete ransacking of grocery stores, panic...but yet, there remains those who would still share what they have with those who do not. But what if your child is an insulin-dependent diabetic? Raging Storm is a stunning novel of the speculative genre. Well-worth the read. You won't be able to put it down, I promise. PS. If you haven't read the first in the series, Deep Shadows!

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is the second book in The Remnant series. Shelby Sparks and her son, Carter have relocated with Max Berkman to High Fields. High Fields is the farm belonging to Gloria and Roy Berkman, Max’s parents. With the destruction of the Sparks home and the problems Abney is encountering, it made sense to relocate. But Shelby does not plan on staying at the farm for long. She needs to get to Austin to find more insulin for Carter. Shelby’s first priority is taking care of her son and he needs the insulin to survive. Max, of course, will not let Shelby go alone (he loves Shelby and wants to protect her). The two of them set off for Austin, but encounter a problem when they reach Abney. Nadine Perkins, the mayor, wishes them to find medicine for the town. They are in desperate need of antibiotics and other medications. Mayor Perkins insists that they take Dr. Farhan Bhatti with them. He knows Austin and the medications needed. Shelby resents the delay, and she distrusts Dr. Bhatti, but the mayor is leaving them with no choice. Patrick Goodnight and Bianca Lopez will be joining them on the perilous journey to Austin. Bianca and Patrick will follow in a second vehicle and provide backup in case they encounter trouble along the way. This group was not prepared for what they encounter in Austin. Will Shelby be able to find the insulin she so desperately needs for her son? Will this group be able to get out of Austin and back home? Raging Storm picks up where Deep Shadows left off. Raging Storm is even better than the first book. This book is well-written and engaging. I was immediately drawn in and kept reading until I finished the story. The novel has a good pace which makes it a pleasure to read. I give Raging Storm 4.5 out of 5 stars (I really liked it). The only sour note was Shelby. I had trouble liking her in Deep Shadows, and I found her discourteous in the first half of this novel. Shelby is impatient (dislikes every delay in their journey) and is only thinking about her objective for the journey (I understand her concern, and I have issues with patience myself). However, Shelby does change over the course of the story and improves in the second half of the book. I think that Vannetta Chapman did a remarkable job at depicting what life would be like if we experienced a disaster. We would like to think that people would help each other out and come together as a community. But it is not realistic. Many people would be looking out for themselves and trying to find ways to profit from the disaster (you know I am being realistic). I liked how Ms. Chapman tied Raging Storm back to Overshadowed. Readers finally get to find out about The Remnant and how it connects to the story. I am curious to see what will happen in the next book in The Remnant series. Raging Storm is not a stand-alone novel. You do need to read Overshadowed and Deep Shadows prior to Raging Storm.

I absolutely loved Deep Shadows, book one, and have been super excited to read Raging Storm. My mom read this before me and devoured it, but warned me that I might want to wait until it was closer to the release date for book three, Light of Dawn, because of the gigantic cliffhanger. Since it's close to the release of Light of Dawn, I thought I should get to reading this one... and now I completely understand my mom's warning!... I NEED BOOK THREE NOW! It took me a little bit to get into this book, but once I did, I had a difficult time putting it down! My favorite parts were reading about Carter and life on the ranch with Max's parents Georgia and Roy. They're such a great influence on Carter and I loved watching him grow and adapt to so much in such a short amount of time. Shelby got on my nerves a bit in the beginning. I completely understood her impatience and attitude, but I still cringed when she took it out on others. Max was one of my favorite characters. He's a steady, strong, good guy, a stable force in a world gone mad. A lot was revealed about the mysterious Dr. Bhatti, what he was hiding, what he was doing in Abney... very interesting! I had so much anxiety the entire book. There was a sense of urgency that permeated all throughout and I couldn't read it fast enough. The author did a magnificent job at painting a vivid and realistic picture of what the world would look like if the electrical grid goes down and all modern technology is lost. It's haunting and bleak at times, but there's also an underlying theme of hope. I seriously can't wait to read Light of Dawn and I highly recommend this series to everyone!

This is the first book I've read written by Vanetta Chapman. I usually don't read Amish novels so I haven't had the opportunity to read her novels until now. I wish I had read the first novel in the series before picking up this one. The author does a good job of giving background information from the first book so that the reader can still follow along the storyline of this book. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with the main characters. I liked Max and Carter well enough but still felt somewhat disconnected, like I was watching from above ground and not in the mix of things happening on the ground. Perhaps reading the first book would have established a ground work for me to be emotionally invested in Max, Shelby, and Carter. The plot is fast-paced and action-filled. The twists and turns in the storyline, with quite a few "gasps" of surprise and shock, make the book an interesting read. One minor detail that seemed a bit incongruent in the story was Carter testing his "insulin levels". To my knowledge, you can only test blood sugar levels currently with portable machines, not insulin levels. And I'm thinking that the story is set in our current timeline with current and similar technologies. Of course, I might have missed the whole setting because I didn't read the first book, and perhaps in Carter's world and timeline people can indeed test insulin levels. If so, my apologies. I was given an electronic advance copy of the book from Harvest via NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Raging Storm is Vannetta Chapman's second chapter of her Remnant series, a rather frightening look at an all too realistic possibility in our technology reliant world. This story picks up right where the first left off with characters doing their best to survive in a situation where survival is questionable at best. The interactions between the main characters and those who are introduced in the second book bring even more life and interest to the story. Vannetta develops diverse scenarios and characters to add multiple levels of intrigue to her story, all of which kept me highly engaged as a reader. Fans of great fiction should enjoy Raging Storm, especially those with any interest in the dystopian genre. Reading this series in order is important to follow the story line. The author left a perfect set-up for the next installment, Light of Dawn, due to be released later this year. She also has written a prequel, available in the form of a free ebook novella, Overshadowed.

Raging Storm is a chilling tale! Action-packed and terrifying at every turn, I was completely absorbed in Shelby and Max’s search for supplies, as well as what was happening in the community they left behind. Spellbound, I frantically turned the pages to find out what would happen next. Well within the realm of possibility, thoughts of this story continue to linger in my mind as I anxiously await the next installment! The Remnant Series is one I highly recommend reading in order. The prequel novella, Overshadowed, sets the stage for the catastrophic events that occur and subsequent novels continue the dramatic devastation that ensues. I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

First, let me state that I am a huge fan of Vannetta Chapman's writing. I feel that she spends a great deal of time in research and stretches the imagination. I have always enjoyed dystopian novels, but this one fell short for me. It pains me to say this because I don't like to be critical. I think that, for this particular series, it is extremely important to read the first book in the series. I did not read that first book and I was confused and found it very difficult to get interested in the book until the very last quarter of the book. The writing was impeccable as always with Vannetta's books. I think that many readers, especially those who have read the first book in series, will find this book very enjoyable. I am giving this book a rating of 4 stars and I do recommend it to those who have already read the first book in the series. Of course, I always feel that no matter what others have rated a book, everyone makes their own choice. In fact, for me, when a great number of readers are negative about a book, I like to read it to see if I agree! I was given a copy of this book by netgalley and I was not required to write a review and I was not required for any review written be positive.

When a solar flare hits the country people are left scrambling some die some turn evil and some are just fearful of the unknown. As the four friends head out to find medicine for the people in their town and for Shelbys some they are faced with some trials and things you just can't ever unsee or ever want to see again. Can they get where they need to be and get where they need to save Shelby's son before it's to late? I will start off saying I did not read the first book so I didn't realize this was a series. That being said it wasn't hard to catch on what was going down. There were twist and turns throughout this whole book and it left you on the edge of your seat, there were also parts in the book that were predictable but those were few and far between. The book was a good clean read throughout this book does have an "end times" feel to it however the author kept it like it was in current times and that it could really happen. The end of the book does end in a cliff hanger and you are left wanting so much more in that sense you want to know whats happening next. This book was a really good read and I can only imagine what the author is going to throw in next that will keep you on the edge of your seat. GRAB this book you won't regret it.

Raging Storm is book two in the Remnant Series. I definitely recommend reading book one, Deep Shadows, as it sets up the devastating situation that these characters find themselves in and gives a lot of good background information that helps the reader understand what Max, Shelby, Carter, and all of the characters in this novel are facing. I absolutely loved Deep Shadows, yet I loved Raging Storm even more! I really appreciated that the novel covered not only the journey to Austin that Max, Shelby, and their friends were on, but also kept tabs on what was going on with Shelby’s son, Carter, back at High Fields. Both storylines were equally fascinating to me. The author did a great job of showing the way society had broken down. The characters found themselves in multiple precarious situations, yet despair was balanced with moments of hope. Although many dangerous encounters ocurred, there were pockets of good people out there. I could easily visualize the distruction and chaos that was the new reality. This story left me VERY, VERY anxious to know what happens next! I highly recommed Raging Storm and the entire series to those who enjoy dystopian novels. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is the second installment in The Remnant Series from Vannetta Chapman and I would recommend reading the first book, Deep Shadows, also.   The cover gives the reader a glimpse of the chilling story it contains. This gripping dystopian series is set in Texas just after a massive solar flare has hit. This is a fast paced story about Shelby's journey to the capitol in search of the much needed medication for her son. This is a story that stayed with me even after closing the last page.  I am not a person who really likes dystopian books, but I must admit I am hooked on this series. For me the characters are so easy to relate to.   Shelby encounters a rapidly deteriorating society outside of their refuge and learns that the life she once knew was gone.  I loved how Shelby kept her faith in God during all the trials she encounters. This is a wonderful book with a plot that will quickly pull the reader in.  I will warn you that you need to be prepared to read this book in one setting because when you open it up you won't want to put it down.  This book brings elements of mystery, suspense, love, forgiveness, and faith. I would recommend it to anyone.

I long awaited book two in Vannetta Chapman's 'The Remnant Series' and I wasn't disappointed. Vannetta writes so descriptively that it's easy for the reader to 'ride' along with the characters and feel like they are part of the story. She often had me on the edge of my seat as the characters went through narrowing situations. I eagerly await the next book in the series. After a massive solar flare wipes out the power grid, technology comes to a crashing halt in Albney, Texas as well as all over the country. Normal peace abiding citizens fight for survival and a way to stay alive. Shelby Sparks is determined to go to Austin to try and find insulin for her diabetic son. Max Berkman has been in love with Shelby since high school and is determined to go with her to Austin and help her find what she desperately needs. He'd give his life for her and her son. Trouble meets them at every turn. What would have been a quick trip before the solar flare is now a hair-raising, trouble-riddled excursion. I highly recommend this book and this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

RAGING STORM (bOOK #3 THE REMNANT SERIES) VANNETTA CHAPMAN CHAOS, SURVIVAL, DESTRUCTION Raging Storm is a fascinating, spellbinding, book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning the pages. Raging Storm tells the story of destruction, chaos, survival, as the world suffers the aftermath of a massive solar flare. For Shelby Sparks, and her friends, it is the search for insulin for Shelby's son, Carter and much needed medical supplies for the town of Abney Texas. Their journey to the capital city of Austin has them facing the unknown. They have to be careful of who they trust and if need be, kill in order to survive. The deterioration of the city of Austin is beyond their wildest dreams. I really, really enjoyed reading Raging Storms, as well as the first book in The Remnant Series, Deep Shadows. I can hardly wait to read the third book in this series. Raging Storm was very well written. I would highly recommend Raging Storm (and Deep Shadows) to my friends, or anyone else to read

The second book in the Remnant Series, Raging Storm is a followup of Deep Shadows, the first in the series. Raging Storm can be a stand alone novel, but by all means, don't miss Deep Shadows for the backdrop of this dystopian thriller. It reveals the background and continuation for the fast paced action in Raging Storm. The characters are complex and diverse, and the relationship between Max and Shelby is somewhat complicated. Max is an admirable hero figure, as Shelby is at times frustrating. The two make a very engaging team. Horrifying situations make their relationship intense as they take on a mission to obtain insulin for Shelby's teenage son. A massive solar flare has changed the world into a war zone. Survival alone has created a volatile situation in which everyone is fighting for their lives. Massive hysteria has become the norm, and attempting to obtain insulin and other necessary medications is next to impossible. The true nature of humans surfaces throughout terrifying situations. Raging Storm will increase your heart rate and shock you into the possibilities of a very conceivable event. This novel is one to be absorbed with the concept that our complex world is dependent upon an environment that our ancestors couldn't imagine. We all have much to learn from this eye opening phenomenon. I highly recommend Raging Storm. It is another unforgettable narrative from an extremely talented author, Vannetta Chapman! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All expressed opinions are my own.

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is the sequel to Deeper Shadows, a dystopian Christian novel. When a solar flare takes out every modern technology, the world becomes a free for all. Everything changes and the world that we know now is gone. In Abney, Texas, Shelby Sparks and her former high school boyfriend, Max Berkman have taken refuge at his parent's farm along with Shelby's son, Carter. Problem is, Carter is a type 1 diabetic who needs insulin to survive and Shelby will stop at nothing to get it for him. Shelby and Max along with their friends, Patrick and Bianca, and the new doctor, Bhatti, start out for the capitol of Austin. Will they even make it there alive? And if they do make it, will they find any insulin for Carter? The tone of this book is definitely darker than the first one but underneath the darkness is the hope that Someone is watching out for them; that God is truly the only one in control. This book is also pretty plausible - it's not hard to imagine that the world that Vannetta writes about. The fact that a solar flare actually COULD take out all of our modern technology isn't even the bad part. It's the fact that the world will quickly become a "raging storm" as law enforcement will be essentially useless, panic will ensue, and every man is basically on his own. Along the way though, Shelby and her friends meet a group of Christians who call them selves "The Remnant." Will they help Shelby and her friends? Raging Storm is fast-paced and suspenseful! This book will absolutely keep you on the edge of your seat so don't read it if you need to go to sleep! Be prepared for lots of surprises. This is one book you won't be able to put down! I, for one, can't wait for the next book in this series!

I loved this book. I hope that what happens in this book never happens in real life but I know that it could. This really shows what people will be like during such a crisis. It is hard to envision but from what has happened over the last few years when only a small tragedy occurs it really isn't. I loved the characters and hope they all survive in the next installment. It is going to be hard to wait for book three. I received a copy of this book from Harvest House Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I refer you to my review of Deep Shadows by this same author, and the first full length book in this series, as I have put most of my total reaction to the whole series in that review. Raging Storm is every bit as intense and powerful as the first book, because you HAVE to know what happens after Shadows. This is a very believable story. How do you pursue "normal" life after a huge life-altering natural disaster? In my humble opinion, this is very well written. It held my attention, that's for sure!!! Now I'm waiting for the next installment!!!

This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year....I knew it would be GOOD, but it was BETTER than I thought!!! I was truly nervous what more could go wrong in Raging Storm after experiencing Deep Shadows, but even there is LOTS of intensity to this story, these characters TRULY amazed me in their resilience, faith, and loyalty. Maybe that's the key to any apocalyptic story, good writing included, but also characters that make it worthwhile NO MATTER how desperate the situation gets. In Deep Shadows, Shelby and her friends stay in one town, Abney, and they have to fight to survive in that one place. The scariest part of that book was recognizing the flare/changes it caused so quickly and realizing it was permanent. In Raging Storm, the four best friends reunite to go on a mission seeking insulin for Shelby's son, Carter, and there's more traveling involved. I would normally recommend reading the first book before the sequel, but the author brilliantly formats the story so that it can be read as a stand alone. The main characters are Shelby, Biana, Max, and Patrick....then there's Max's parents Roy and Georgia who are with Carter. There are some characters from the first book and new ones introduced, both good and not so good. I was amazed by every situation they got out of, Shelby and her friends were my heroes throughout the story. They risked their lives for Carter and others who were protecting abandoned children. Have to mention the name Danny, him and Eugene Stone both need justice, this is so I will remember them in Book 3. Described well, but not in gory detail. Just enough to tug at your heart. In the beginning of the story, there's a scene in a big barn that got TENSE quickly! Reminded me of the show The Walking Dead minus the zombies. LOTS of gun knowledge in this story! If I remember correctly, Gabe Thompson is the guy from Overshadowed, he has been under an alias the whole time. I pictured Raven to be Michelle Rodriguez. We learn about the Remnant in this book, which of course is the name of the series, but here we will see why that name is relevant. I also considered what would happen to your pets in this situation....? That gets answered in the story also, sad. If you enjoy zoo animals, a few make an appearance in the story, thought THAT was interesting! As intense as the story is, there is also friendship, strength, hope and humor....Chapman style! Just because it's the end of the world and things can get gloomy, doesn't mean all is lost. Hated the scene with Danny and his men, LOVED the scene where the four friends help Bill at the end, didn't cry until 40 pages in and then cried again at the end, it was just touching stuff. Didn't consider anything scary, just kept bracing myself for the main characters to hang in there. A few people get shot or shot at, but despite the hardship in Raging Storm, I really considered Deep Shadows to have more violence. I was nervous about reading this book, but so glad I went for it. The story REALLY and TRULY blessed me despite the intensity and how much could possibly go wrong so fast!!! On the other hand, there are also miracles and examples of God's love and provision throughout. Oh, and poor Carter! Loved it and can't wait for Book 3!!! Thanks to the author and publisher for the review copy provided. I was not required to write a positive review, all thoughts and comments are my own.
