For Christian parents, there is no greater joy than seeing their children learn to walk with the Lord. And there is no greater fear than that their children will walk away from God.
After serving together in pastoral ministry for forty years, Phil and Diane Comer know those hopes and fears well. Thirty-seven years ago, they became parents themselves. And like all new parents, they were intimidated and unsure about how to take on the task of spiritually training their young children.
Now, with all four of their children grown and establishing their own households of faith, Phil and Diane have embarked on a quest to help the next generation of parents raise passionate Jesus followers. Drawing on years of pastoral counseling, teaching, leading, and decades of watching families from the perspective of pastors and leaders in ministry, Phil and Diane instruct, guide, encourage, and offer hope and practical help to Christian parents.

What People are Saying About This
'Until I became a parent, I had no idea what a hard, labor-intensive, complex, rewarding, fun, exhausting and exhilarating skill it was to unfold a child into their full potential. I always knew I had good parents, but it wasn't until our first child was born that it dawned on me: I had some of the best. I quickly realized that if I could be half the father my dad was I would be a raging success, but that was no easy task! Within days of Jude's birth I found myself regularly calling mom or dad and asking a barrage of questions. Now as we enter the teenage years I have more questions than ever before. My parents don't have all the answers, but they have more than a little wisdom to pass on to a generation that is reeling from the dissolution of the family in Western culture, and the corresponding emotional, relational, and spiritual fallout. Our family has its fair share of dysfunction, as all families do, but to this day our entire family is following Jesus, and for my parents, that was always the number one goal. If you share that goal, I can't think of a better guide for the journey than this book. Read it!' -- John Mark Comer, Author

Reading a parenting book written by both parents was very encouraging to me. Thanks to Zondervan for the complimentary copy. Our household was split on parenting ideas with the first two, which is not the best way to parent kids. While both of our children turned out just fine and are saved by God's grace, I still see where we could've done better. I took my time going through this book marking just those things, as well as putting happy faces where we got it right. Even though these kids are grown, I have a 5-year-old that I want to raise God's way on a closer scale than the first two. Parents will finish this book with wonderful biblical wisdom to help them raise up Jesus Followers. Just think, if we had more Jesus Followers, we'd see more people (their peers, etc.) come to know Christ. There would be less hurting and more loving. This book has encouraged me to be more intentional about thinking eternally while raising this youngest kiddo.
April 24, 2018 I received this book free from Handlebar Publishing for the purpose of review. I only need to write an honest review upon completion of the book. Phil and Diane Comer have been married nearly forty years and have four grown children and a cadre of grandchildren. The started a church in Portland, Oregon which is a church loaded with young families. The book begins with a testimony from the Comer's and the formulation of the Plan. This is clearly one of the better books written with a focus on raising our children with a God centered goal and practical applications for each age group from birth through 22. As parents we want our children to become passionate followers of Christ but many times the formulating of the plan and the steps along the way escape us, or they did me. With subjects such as: A Heart of Obedience, Tools for Discipline , Character Development, Spiritual Training and many others until the Putting the Roof On, you will be equipped to implement a plan in your home and with the direction of the Holy Spirit fine tune it for your family. I highly recommend this book to parents of any age children.
