Now an author of fifteen books, this opera-loving mother of three has been twice named to Barnes & Noble's General Fiction Forum for their top twenty novels of the year. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a spontaneous, extensive road trip with a few of your old high school friends? That's what happens when Jenna, an introvert with marriage problems, shows up on the doorstep of Claire, a former Buddhist nun who has cancer. They pick up Nicole, a life coach battling her own issues, and a journey with endless possibilities begins! This is a well-written novel about rekindling true friendships. The author takes the serious situations these women face and mixes in humor to create a wonderful story. The character's real inner personalities are slowly revealed as they travel across the country, remembering so much from their past, as well as making new memories. You'll feel like you are traveling right along with them, and it will make you yearn for a similar road trip of your own! Jenna, Claire, and Nicole all encounter much needed personal insight from their journey, but the most valuable lesson is experienced by the reader! I anxiously await the second installment of this series!

Random Acts of Kindness made me want to call all my friends and get together for a road trip. The bonds of great friendships, even over such a long time, do not fade and through life's ups and downs they remain a constant in your memories for those friends helped form who you are today and this book really drives that principle home that everyone we meet or befriend, or marry and so on effects who we are they all touch our lives in some way. And any random act of kindness whether towards a sick friend or a homeless man you give a cup of coffee to the ripple effect of RAK is far reaching and life changing. This book was an inspiring read and if you loved the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood  or any of the books by author Cathy Lamb you will love this book!

A new novel of women's friendship from the author of The Proper Care and Maintenance of Friendship and Friendship Makes the Heart Grow Fonder. With the remnants of her past rattling in the trunk of her Chevy, Jenna Elliott abandons her Seattle home determined to start life anew. Her journey compels her to the door of two friends: Claire, an ex-Buddhist nun and cancer survivor, eager to escape her overbearing family for what may be her last chance to fulfill a dream; and Nicole, a professional Life Coach who can’t even control her own teenage son. But what starts out as an impulsive road trip soon becomes an inexorable journey to their past, as the women grapple with who they were, who they are, and the strange twists that have now set them on the road to their hometown of Pine Lake. There, Jenna discovers that her random act of kindness has rippled out into the world like a stone dropped into a deep pond, coming back to rock her life—and those of her friends—in ways they never expected. -- This was my first book by Lisa. The first 100 pages or so, I liked the friendship between the women but I needed a map or something to keep track of where we were, who was who, and then all the sudden it got good. You know the kind of good, where you must stop everything, tell all your reader friends to grab it good? Yea, that kind of good! These days everyone has been affected in some way by cancer, divorce, cheating, so this book will be relevant in some way. Lisa has done an excellent job. I loved it so much, I just sat last night and I couldn't get enough of it. My eyes wanted to close, but my mind said no. Three friends go on a road trip, each with their own journey, not really knowing what the other is going through. Picking up others along the way. With the promise of another book hopefully, I am there!! This definitely will NOT be my last book by Higgins!! I highly recommend this read, but grab a box of Kleenex you will need it. Cheer the ladies on!!!

I really loved this book. It is the story of three women who take a cross country road trip as they confront the problems in each of their lives. Along the way they meet up with friends from their shared past, and rekindle the bonds that they shared in high school. As the journey progresses, we learn much about the characters and they learn a lot about themselves and each other. The book addresses serious problems with empathy, kindness, and warmth. The story gives credence to the belief that we all can make a difference in the lives of others, and probably the most important thing is being their to offer support. I loved the feeling of calm that this book exuded, probably something to do with Lisa's understanding of mindfulness. The book ended without the problems being solved, but with the courage of the characters to move forward and deal with the situations at hand. There was such a feeling of hopefulness in the book. Lisa alluded to a follow-up of this book in her author's notes. I can't wait. This would be a great selection for a bookclub, to share with people you care about or to read for your own enjoyment.
