I have never seen the anime or even have a clue of what it is about by the time I finish volume 1 and 2. Now I understand the hype behind this series. While I did enjoyed volume 1 and the premises of it but it wasn't enough to make me go crazy about it until volume 2. It has nothing to do with the girls on the cover (but they do play a tiny part of it) but rather something the MC says or thought of when he saw them after he "comes back" that really hit me. After reading those lines it really change my thoughts of this series dramatically of what this series really is.

One issue I had with the previous volume was that Subaru didn’t have a lot of time to bond with Emilia, Felt, Rom, ect. Of course, this volume covers a recurring four to five day period. While that may seem meaningless, the turbulent plot allows Subaru to piece together pictures of the manor’s inhabitants. These puzzles include negative and positive facets of their personalities. I really liked the internal conflict Subaru has throughout the second half of the story. There’s joy and pain mixed together and he has to decide what outcome he’s willing to fight for. In his suffering, Subaru gets to see the strength and compassion of the manor poured out for him. He slowly begins to really appreciate those around him, despite their fronts. That said, this volume is half of the second arc, so it might be good to buy volume 3 at the same time.
