Overview

Rock King by Tara Leigh

The most famous rock star in the world has finally found the one, but secrets from his past threaten to ruin both their lives in this "heart-pounding romance" (Fresh Fiction).
I'm not who you think I am.
Shane Hawthorne has it all. At least, that's what the headlines say about me. I have millions of fans, awards, more money - and women - than I know what to do with. But what you don't see is the wreckage I've caused. The memories and pain I can't escape, even when I pour them into music and spin them into gold.
I tried to forget. To lose myself in booze and groupies. It didn't work. It hurt me and - worse - it hurt my band. That's the last thing I want to do, so I'm cleaning up my act... starting with Delaney Fraser.
Gorgeous, smart, drama-free, and even nice - Delaney is the perfect "girlfriend." When I'm with her I don't have to pretend. It's like she sees the real me. And I can see a future with her. But that's dangerous. Because the truth is, Shane Hawthorne doesn't actually exist. He's a shield to hide who I really am. Fraud. Runaway. Addict. Murderer.
And it's impossible to love a lie, right?

A brand new series from Tara Leigh and if this book is anything to go by she has another successful series on her hands. Shane Hawthorne has it all, a successful rock star about to go on tour but he needs a girlfriend to be seen with him and protect him from himself as well as his fans so he gets his agent to find him the perfect girl to sign a contract and act as his girlfriend just for the length of the tour, enter Delaney Fraser a girl who is trying to move forward with her life so the perfect candidate for the job but both Shane and Delaney have secrets, both have a past that they want no one to find out about and both are consumed with guilt. The attraction between Shane and Delaney is instant, the chemistry is sizzling but will they be able to just pretend to be a couple or will their feelings get the better of them when they start spending nights together......both Shane and Delaney are broken from their pasts and both are confused by the feelings they have for each other all they know is they need each other to move forward but moving forward is not as easy as it seems...... This book is a beautiful emotional love story dealing with two people consumed with guilt, at times it will make you cry and at times you will want to bang their heads together, it’s story about two people finding strength from the love they feel for each other and realising that love is not about individuals it’s about partnerships. I loved Shane and Delaney and I can’t wait for book 2 in the Nothing but Trouble Series, great job Tara Leigh.

I enjoyed this one a lot! Rock star romances have been a favorite of mine lately…for the most part. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. Thanks to InkSlinger PR for providing me a copy in exchange for a honest review. So just a heads up: the summary makes this seem like it’s only from Shane’s POV, but it’s actually dual POV; we get to see both sides of this arrangement. The summary also makes this one sounds pretty dark, but overall, it wasn’t that dark. We mostly get to see the happy moments, the courtship, the forgiveness, and the possible redemption after so much grief and guilt. I really liked Delaney and Shane’s characters for the most part. There were a few things Shane did that irked me, but overall, he was a good main character. And I didn’t really hate anything about Delaney, although the whole (basically) virginal girl for a guy who has slept around a ton is a bit overplayed, especially with rock stars. We saw secondary characters, but I feel like we didn’t get to know them very much. We only learned a little about Piper, Landon, Travis, Gavin, and Delaney’s dad…and then a little about Shane’s past and the people in it. And then we only got like one glimpse at the other two band members (guitarist and bassist?), which is kind of weird given that they’re a huge part of Shane’s life. Although given his addiction problems, I can see why he avoided them a lot…but they’re playing shows together. We should see them a bit more. I might have enjoyed this one a little more if I wasn’t mentally comparing it to the Stage Dive series I’d recently read. That one was so in depth with character developments, even secondary characters. We got to know all of the band members, some of the roadies, siblings, neighbors, etc. But regardless, this book was still fantastic. I can’t wait to read the next book which is coming out this summer. Yay!

If you think Rock God is your typical rock star romance, you would be so wrong! It is packed full of emotion. It will make you sad, mad, and happy! Those three emotions are what make a book great for me! This book was magnificent!!!! Shane Hawthorne appears to have it all, but it is just a façade he has carefully constructed. It is one that will crumble with one small move. When he meets Delaney Fraser, he thinks she is the answer to all his problems. Too bad, he doesn’t realize he will soon have to face each lie he has told himself. Delaney has started a new life as well, running from her past. She is a waitress and is working hard to save money to put herself through school. When a chance encounter puts her in the crosshairs of Shane Hawthorne, her life will never be the same. Shane wants Delaney, and he is used to getting what he wants. He tries to convince her that he just needs her as his “girlfriend” while he is on the road touring with his band. Having a beautiful woman by his side keeps the groupies away, and it also helps keeping his demons locked up. He wants more from her. She seems drama-free, and there is an innocence there. She really sees Shane as a person, not the rock god. He finds that calms his dark demons. He doesn’t realize she has her own demons and darkness. Delaney is a very complicated character. No, she is by far not perfect. However, she is a good person. I, myself, don’t know how she puts one foot in front of the other each day. The baggage she carries would completely suffocate me. She and Shane have to overcome a lot to find their happiness. It definitely won’t be easy. What I loved about this book is that it wasn’t just about the romance and chemistry. Yes, those are beautifully intertwined within the story, but Leigh takes on several issues. She does it so seamlessly. They all blend perfectly together to create a phenomenal book. I can always tell when a writer loves what they’re doing…they aren’t just going through the motions. When a writer feels what he or she is writing, that always come through to me. I know Tara Leigh feels every word she writes. Shane and Delaney proved that with their actions and their words. I knew this was an important story for Leigh to tell, and it was even reiterated in her author’s note at the end of the book. I hope someone who is struggling with the same issues or knows someone who is will find hope in Shane and Delaney’s story! ***Read and Reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews***

Prepare for a wild ride in this poignant, and sexy romance! Delaney and Shane are both broken and living with secrets. When they meet at a party their chemistry is instant and Shane wants Delaney. But she doesn't give in easily and walks away. That never happens to the Rock King and he likes that she doesn't care about his money or fame. He finally convinces her to give him a chance. As they spend time together, the sparks fly and their fractured hearts begin to heal. But can they find true happiness when secrets are revealed, and misunderstandings happen? This is a beautiful story of second chances, redemption, and learning to find your happiness. Ms Leigh is a new author to me and I really enjoyed her writing. She wrote about sensitive issues with so much grace, honesty and empathy. My heart ached for Delaney and Shane at some moments and then laughed and swooned in others. Their hard fought journey was not an easy one but so worth the ride. I really enjoyed this poignant, heartwarming and sexy romance.

Another intense story from Tara Leigh this one about popular rock star Shane and anonymous girl Delaney. A dark intense story with a lot of drama, passion, angst and dark secrets who can destroy lives. Shane needs a new fake girlfriend to escort him on a tour and keep him in a straight line so the perfect candidate seems anonymous Delaney. Who of course receives an offer that she can not refuse. So let the rollercoaster begins to spin. Delany is the first person to see Shean who he really is and he is with her safe enough that he starts to reveal himself. After a few bumpy rides Shane sees Delany as someone perfect. A little does he know that she also carries a big dark ugly secret that can destroy everything. They are both very interesting and well-developed characters. I am glad that we didn't see Shane at his worst but know when he is sober and has a clear mind, we see how passionate is he and that he develops more that attraction toward Delaney. Delaney, I didn't love her she was ok, interesting girl but there was something in her actions that made me not to fall in love with her- Maybe because she was strong and smart she didn't act like it. I did like her support that she shown Shane and that she didn't let him treat her like a tramp. The end was also unpredictable and I can't wait to see what happens with Piper in the next book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

2.5 Stars! This is a new-to-me author, so I want to say upfront that I really liked her writing style. She writes beautiful pros and the flow of her words is what I really enjoyed most about this book. As for the story and the character actions, that’s where I didn’t get the joy from this read I was hoping for. I loved the premise of the story - Hot rocker guy trying to rise from the ashes and stay one step ahead of his dark past, hires a fake girlfriend to help him stay on the right path and not indulge in readily available party favors, including drug, booze and women - And as a side not, he’s absolutely not looking for any kind of emotional connection - Sweet, beautiful girl trying to hide completely from her past, works for hot rocker guy and simply can’t resist - Two opposing forces coming together to find an attraction they can’t deny ... Yeah, this is the kind of trope I love. And I loved Shane’s character for the most part. He was sexy, he owned his past sins and he was trying to make a better future and when he meets Delaney, he sees a bright shiny future he never really thought he deserved. His character was very believable. He wasn’t looking for any kind of commitment, but once he found Delaney, he was open and honest and came clean about his past. He was making amends all along, and though he made some character choices that didn’t sit right with me at all, mostly towards the end, I still really enjoyed his character. Then there’s Delaney who I didn’t like much at all. She was sweet and I loved how she stood by Shane when everything came crumbling down. But I never felt the heartbreak she said she was going through. I wanted to feel the torture of her past, but it just wasn’t there. I couldn’t connect with her at all. She should have been broken by what happened. I mean, come on! What she did, what she let happen after it was done ... and then she just goes on, obviously sad but letting her dad hang like that? I couldn’t get on board with that. Thankfully, she did right in the end, but I didn’t see a lot of growth or remorse in what happened with her. And the story itself... felt really slow. I even found myself skipping parts and I never really do that when reading. There was a lot of repetitive internalizing for both characters and I just wanted the story to get on with it. And with all that said, I have to also say that this author can write one heck of a sex scene. I didn’t really like the insta-love between Shane and Delaney, but I LOVED the private moments they shared. Those two were scorching hot and Shane was really kinda drool worthy. All in all, I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I didn't like the plot nor did I like the direction it went, but I loved the writing and just because this book didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean other books by this author won't. I’m looking forward to checking out more of her work.

Shane is a rock king. Delaney is a struggling waitress. Both have an past blighted by road accidents which they are hiding from. Can they move past the lies towards each other .... What a great book, full of sex, lies and video tapes. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters, and I am looking forward to reading about the next part of the saga.

kicking off her nothing but trouble series, rock king introduces us to shane hawthorne, lead singer and guitarist for the highly successful band. he's got some addiction issues. and some guilt issues. and when he meets and connects with delaney fraser he's drawn to her the way he hasn't been drawn to anyone for a long time. so he hires her to be his fake girlfriend. but then he finds that with her, he wants things to be real. and so he opens himself up to all the grief and trauma of his past. and delaney understands it all because she also has the same guilt issues. and she's also got some trust issues. and some self-esteem issues. because she doesn't believe that shane loves her the way she is in love with him. and part of her believes that she doesn't deserve his love. these two couldn't be more on the same page if they tried. so they just need to get over themselves, and believe that no matter what happened in their past, they are still entitled to live their lives and find something happy. this was angsty and swoony and a quick read. the pov switches here happened within chapters, and this kept the pace heightened, i think. **rock king will publish on february 20, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever yours) in exchange for my honest review.

Rock King by Tara Leigh is an entertaining read. Ms. Leigh has delivered a well-written book and filled it with flawed but amazing characters. Shane is a rock God. He's cleaned up his act some by staying away from hard liquor and drugs and hiring girls to pretend they are his girlfriend to keep the women away. Delaney is a waitress. Both of them have secrets. Delaney and Shane's story is packed with drama, angst, nuggets of humor and sizzle. There was an overabundance of detail in the book for my taste, but it was a good story and I enjoyed reading it. Rock King is book 1 of the Nothing But Trouble Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Incredible rock star romance with so much depth and drama that it is consuming. Shane is hiding from the world through his music and when he’s on tour, he needs a woman around to keep him away from the drugs and alcohol. His agent, Travis, is tasked with finding a woman for the next tour. When he meets Delaney at a restaurant as his waitress, he knows he’s found just what Shane needs. Delaney is skeptical of this request after she meets Shane at a Travis’s Hollywood party but there was something in Shane’s eyes that captivated her. Delaney has her own secrets that she is hiding from which changed her path in life and she hasn’t found a way back. Shane and Delaney are lost souls, both struggling to cope with tragedy in their own ways. Their journey is intense as they both have to face hard truths but can they open themselves to love. Will they see themselves as worthy to be loved? Definitely not your typical rock star romance, it is so much more while delivering all the over the top sexiness that the rock ‘n roll lifestyle provides.

“I would destroy her. But maybe, just maybe…she could save me.” Rock King is book one in the Nothing But Trouble series by Tara Leigh. Tara is a new to me author so what better chance to introduce myself to a new author than with her brand new series. Shane Hawthorne is a rock king, the lead singer of Nothing but Trouble, one of the most popular rock bands of the decade. Named sexiest man alive more than once, it would appear that Shane had it all. But it was all a sham. Shane was a sham. He had secrets, big ones. He tried using alcohol, drugs and endless women to keep himself from feeling, but it didn’t work. Then, he and his manager came up with a new way, a way that was working. Then he met “her,” and everything changed. “I was a jagged knife, the tip of my blade edged with poison. Brutal. Messy. Lethal.” Delaney Fraser ran away from her ghosts as well. She hadn’t intended to end up in Los Angeles, it’s just where she ran out of money. Now a waitress, she is beyond shocked when Piper walks in to the restaurant she is working at. She knew Piper from her home town. Piper’s boss, Travis, insists she bring Delaney to a party that night at his house. He knew right away that Delaney was exactly what he was looking for, that she would be perfect for Shane. “What was it about Delaney that made me think she could fill the cracks in my soul, that maybe I could fill the ones in hers?” For Shane and Delaney, the attraction was immediate. But Delaney was different than anyone else Shane had ever known. His cheesy lines didn’t work on her. She didn’t just melt by being in his presence as most women did. He knew, though, as much as he knew he needed to breathe, that he needed Delaney in his life. But he also knew he was toxic, and she was everything good. Was he selfish enough to keep her with him, even though he knew he could ruin her? “Tonight, right now, there was only one thing I knew for sure. Delaney and I, we were linked by something I didn’t quite understand yet, but I already cherished.” Delaney finds herself falling for Shane, but not the Shane that he lets everyone else see, but the real man she finds underneath. The man who is broken and hurting, the man that needs her as much as she needs him. This is a world, though, that she knows nothing of. The world of paparazzi, tabloids, and endless fans. Could she survive in Shane’s world? “Living with Shane was like standing in the path of an incoming storm, gathering force and speed. I was already swept up in his chaotic energy, and there was no escape in sight. Either I could bend and sway, let myself be pulled into Shane’s whirlwind. Or I could stand my ground, dig in my heels, and hope I wouldn’t snap in two.” I do love a good rock star romance, and this one didn’t disappoint. Shane and Delaney were so broken. They had so many secrets. But they both deserved love, forgiveness, redemption. The steam level of this book is off the charts. These two together were scorching. It is a heavy book, though. Both of these characters are so broken. It was right on the border of being too much for me. I usually like my books to be a little lighter. I did enjoy it, though, and won’t soon be forgetting these two. The next book in this series is Rock Legend, Piper and Landon (the drummer)’s story. “Shane Hawthorne, I’m yours.”

Shane & Delaney = a one pretty f'd up mess! But they are a beautiful mess. Rock King by Tara Leigh was the exact opposite of what I thought the story would be. I love rock star romances, and this one in in a league of its own. I think this series is going to take off from here! Shane knows what he needs in order to stay true. What surprised me the most was how aware of his flaws he was and even though he was ready to lose himself in all the bad, he kept out of it. At first he wanted to use Delaney as a crutch to keep him in line. In the end, I only saw that Delaney was just his other half walking on the same planet. The emotions that ran through me were unbelievable. One minute I am in full blow love, the next I am scared to find the truth of these characters. I was mad, then sad. At the end I was a big ball of anxiety. The storyline kept me on my toes. Rock King is not a simple story. The complexity is what I needed to get me out of my reading funk. I loved Shane and Delaney. I am excited for the next books coming up!

I loved, loved, loved Rock King by Tara Leigh, book one in her Nothing but Trouble series. Ms. Leigh created a wonderful and emotional story between two people living lives based on lies and secrets. Shane Hawthorne is a rock star, at least according to his fans and the public. He overcome his addictive past, lives under a new name, and honors the memory of his best friend, killed in a car accident with Shane as the driver. Shane channeled all of his memories, fears, and pain into his music. Nothing seemed to keep him on the straight and narrow until he met Delaney Fraser. Delaney was the perfect “girlfriend”, a woman to accompany Shane and keep the groupies away and him away from the booze and drugs. Delaney also has secrets and a life of lies, but she is able to see the real Shane through all of the glitz and glamour. She not only loves Shane but understands him, encouraging him to resolve his past, putting his demons to rest. Once Delaney admits to her secret, will it destroy the love Shane has for her or will it cement their relationship? I really, really loved reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. Ms. Leigh is a wonderful story teller, drawing me in and not letting go until I read the last page. I highly recommend this book to other readers and can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I was given an ARC in exchange of my honest review. Shane Hawthorne , the resident king of rock and roll has it all, fame, fortune and girls. However he is a liar. Shane’s agent of all trade has to hire a fake girlfriend for Shane to take on tour in order to keep all the fans at bay. Delaney Fraser is a waitress when Travis, Shane’s agent, offers her a job. To be the fake girlfriend. She takes the job to help her father who is in jail. But Delaney has secrets of her own. Will the secrets bring them together or tear them apart. Have to read to find out!

Keeping secrets will eat you alive. Shane Hawthorne is a rock star who is living with a big lie. Delaney Fraser is a college student working as a waitress and living with an even bigger lie. These two meet and there is instant chemistry. They made a great couple. I really wished these two could learn to talk to each other. They spent what felt like 50% of the book agonizing over their secrets. Once their secrets were revealed they were able to move on with their lives. There was an HFN (happy for now) while Delaney completes college. I loved the interaction between Delaney and Piper. They knew each other in high school, but weren’t really friends. I am really hoping for good things in the female friendship in the next book, which is Piper’s story. A solid 3 stars The book was provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

Shane is the lead singer in the rock band Nothing but Trouble, and that's exactly what he is ... trouble! After years of indulging himself in booze, drugs and women he is clean from booze and drugs, but the women are harder to resist. So he has been "hiring" a girlfriend to be at his side to help him through when the band goes on tour. When he meets his "next girlfriend" Delaney, he knows she is different from all the others and he falls head over heels for her. But they both have secrets that could not only rip them apart, but rip their lives apart as well. This book will draw you in to Shane and Delaney's story and not let you escape their emotional journey. There were times I cried and times I just wanted to shake them but isn't that the sign of a great book when you get emotionally involved. Also there were a few twists that I didn't see coming which was a nice surprise ... I love it when that happens ... there's nothing worse that a very predictable book. I can't wait for the next book ... I knew it would be about Piper and Landon and I'm pretty sure that they have a past. Thanks for the great read Tara! I received an ARC courtesy of Forever - Grand Central Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Rock King is an angsty, sweet rock and roll romance. Shane Hawthorne is at the top of his game professionally but personally he is carrying around a butt ton of grief. He tried self-medicating but was fortunately pulled out of that spiral by his agent. One of the ways he copes is by hiring a pretend girlfriend for each tour. She will stand between him and the booze and drugs and groupies. He picks waitress for this tours “girlfriend” and despite her better judgement she takes the job because she needs the money and Shanes agent makes her an offer she can’t refuse. They didn’t plan to fall in love but Shane isn’t the only one with secrets and Delany’s may just cost them everything. I liked these perfectly imperfect characters. I enjoyed tagging along with them as they each discovered more about themselves and each other.

Shane is a mirage. He knows how to shine, but he's better at knowing how to self destruct. Underneath the bright lights, he can be what the people wants. An untouchable, larger than life rock star. Behind closed doors he falls apart. He breaks hearts, ruin friendships and tortures himself with the demons of his past. He wants to be saved, but is not willing to rescue himself. Delaney is the epitome of what his heart desires, but not necessarily what his heart needs. She's a showstopper in more ways than even he knows. Her secrets are less obvious but still exist. Tara Leigh has become a favorite author of mine. She's not afraid to show the dark side of fame, wealth and love. The side we all know to exist, but refuse to see. Rock King is an on the edge romance that is toxic, tempting and touching. Delaney and Shane are caught in a masquerade of their own making, Can they survive the big reveal?
