About the Author

Jeanna Janes is a native Kentuckian and avid nature lover. She currently lives in Indiana with her loving and supportive family. As a long-time volunteer at her community's elementary school, her goal is to inspire, educate, and encourage children to read and write at an early age. She has worn many hats in her lifetime: actress, nurse, wife, mother, aunt, and more. The latest hat is that of an author. Jeanna is excited to share her debut book with you and hopes you enjoy the adventure of Seas Apart as much as she enjoyed creating its world, characters, and story.
At the young age of only 13, Sammy began working on the first illustrations for Seas Apart. Given only the manuscript, she was able to create images that captured the author's vision perfectly. Sammy is a self-taught artist without any formal training other than the occasional group art class. From the time she was a small girl, you would find her "pen in hand" as she created flawless ink sketches. Her love of animals and ocean life is well portrayed in Seas Apart as the chapter images come to life. Sammy is a very motivated and passionate artist. It was Jeanna's great privilege to collaborate with her in Seas Apart.

Seas Apart is an epic adventure headed up by 2 middle schoolers. What's unique about this story is that the parents are involved as well! So many middle school books have the parents being absent and/or clueless, but this story actively involves the parents. The kids and adults work together to solve the mystery and escape danger. There are pirates, secret treasure, hidden passageways, and a new friendships all wrapped up in a grand adventure! Highly recommend for ages 9-12. No language, no inappropriate material. Very PG.

Excellent debut middle grade novel--adventure and lovable characters...with an obvious dedication to accurate research. Kids will love the mystery, and learn from the devotion to family and friends.

Fabulous debut novel! Middle-age readers will love this modern-day pirate story full of intrigue and mystery. There truly are twists and turns from start to finish! Am really looking forward to introducing it to the middle school readers at my school. Sure hope there's more on the way from Jeanna Janes!

This book is listed as a youth book. I am not a youth by any means, but have read this book twice and enjoyed it as much the second time as the first. It was an amazing story of adventure and mystery that was so well written it was just hard to put down. Written in the present tense you could actually feel like you were part of the story. And, the young artist really did a great job, making the book even more exciting with her artwork. Sure hope to see more from this author!!! She wrote this so it could actually be a series, which would be great.
