Sidetracked by Brandilyn Collins

When you live a lie for so long, it becomes a part of you. Like clothing first rough and scratchy, it eventually wears down, thins out. Sinks into your skin.

Thirty-four-year-old Delanie Miller has fled her dark past and is now settled into a quiet life in small-town Kentucky. She has friends, a faux "family" who lives in her house, and a loving boyfriend who may soon ask her to marry him. Her aching dream of a husband and future children are about to come true. But protecting this life of promise means keeping a low profile and guarding the truth of her past--from everyone.

The town's peace is shattered when Delanie's friend, Clara, is murdered, and Delanie finds her body. The police chief quickly zeroes in on Billy King, a simple-minded young man whom Delanie knows would never hurt Clara. Delanie can hunt down evidence and speak out publicly against the chief--only at great risk of her own exposure. But after suffering such injustice in her own past, how can she keep silent now? Delanie must find a way to uncover Clara's murderer yet save the life she's created for herself--the deceit-ridden life that will forever distance her from others and God.

With page-turning intensity, Sidetracked hurtles between Delanie's trauma in Redbud and the chaos of her past. Those experiences forced Delanie to reinvent her present--but at what cost to her future?

Just read. You will see exactly what I mean. Only complaint, I figured out the villain early, she kept repeating God wasn't listening to her cries for help and the ending was rushed. Believe it or not I still enjoyed the book.

I really enjoyed this book. To me a good book will cause me to relate to the characters on an emotional level. Brandilyn Collins did just that. The events that took place stirred up outrage at the injustice and un believable frustration of not being believed . Time an time again you were pulled through fear,  anger,  frustration,  joy,  peace and relief. I could relate to her Laura's struggles with her faith. Brandilyn didn't paint her as some unbelievable Christian character who never doubted or wrestled with hard issues. She was believable. If you like high suspense with good characters and lots of twists and turns, this is a must read.  .

I listened to the Audible version of this book and it was very well-done.   Both the story and the narration were great.  Delany hides in the shadows trying to escape her past, even though it follows her. The foundations of her life tremble when her friend is murdered and an innocent man is arrested for a crime she knows he didn't commit. Delany must decide if she will let this tragedy occur and remain safe in the life she's built, or if she will risk the utter devastation and loss of everything she holds dear to protect an innocent man. Her two worlds collide, and there is no escape.   Because the story was so believable, I experienced the highs and lows of Delany's emotions, and cheered when the wrongs done to her were made right.  I received the audible book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

Awesome book! Delanie Miller has just left her best friend’s wedding shower when her carefully built life starts to completely unravel as she sees her friend lying dead on the ground. The author soon lets the reader understand why this is particularly unnerving for Delanie when she switches back in time to young 16 year old Laura Denton’s worst day of her life when she discovers her mom brutally killed. I was hooked! Who killed Clara? How could this happen to Delanie? What would happen next to Laura? This book seemed different from Brandilynn Collins’ previous books because I never got the sense that someone was trying to kill Delanie – just that bad things kept happening to her and what would she do? Would she keep her faith in God? What could she do? I found this book spellbinding and just could not put it down! I received this book from TBCN in return for my honest opinion.

I had the privilege of reading Sidetracked by Brandilyn Collins. This was the first book of Ms. Collins’ I’ve had the opportunity to read and I loved it. She grabbed me with the storyline, pulled me in, and I didn’t come up for air until the ending, which I never saw coming. I loved the characters, loved the twists and turns, and loved that it wasn’t a predictable ending. This is a great book for anyone who loves suspense books that aren’t too scary, great characters, and an enjoyable read. I received this book for free from the Book Club Network and the author in exchange for my honest review.

I have loved Brandilyn Collins since the first book I read of hers and "Sidetracked" was no exception. A great story of how thre truth sets us free and a woman who found the courage to do what was right at the risk of costing her the life she had built. A great read! Did not want to put it down!

Well, Brandilyn Collins did it again! She never fails to disappoint with her Seatbelt Suspense. Delanie Miller is living in a small, quiet town. That is, until her best friend, Clara, is murdered. While Delanie is trying to find the murderer, we find out about her former life. I loved this story line and I kept wondering how Delanie got from her former life to her current life. I am amazed at how creative Brandilyn Collins is with her story lines and how she comes up with them! She is one of my favorite authors and I definitely recommend this book to everyone out there! In fact, I've already recommended her to a lot of my reading buddies! I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

Sidetracked is the first of Brandilyn Collins’ books that I have read and I know now that I have been missing out on a fantastic author! This book is the ultimate page turner, mystery, suspense novel. It has a fast paced storyline that kept me not only engaged but enthralled. I found myself rooting for the good guy/girl and hating the bad ones. Just when I thought I had it all figured out with the “who done it”, I got the “nut uh!” moment. Sidetracked is beyond fabulous! WHEW! I could not read fast enough and it only took me two days to read the entire book. It was an amazing ride and one that had my mind reeling! In a story where evil prevails and the justice system fails, I found myself riding the emotional roller coaster right along with characters Delaine Miller and Laura Denton. In a parallel story of two women caught up in a murder investigation, Delaine Miller in 2013 and Laura Denton in 1995, justice seems to have tunnel vision and ignores truth. Delaine battles within herself whether or not to help Billy, a simple minded man who has been arrested for the murder of Delaine’s friend, Clara. But getting involved means exposing herself and the past she has tried desperately to keep hidden. Delaine knows that Billy is innocent and that he didn’t commit the crime and she’s well aware that the System doesn’t always prevail in justice for the victim. But Delaine only wants to move forward into the life she has always wanted with the man of her dreams. Can she keep quiet and pray justice happens for Clara without her help? Laura is only 16 years old when her world comes crashing down around her. Being young has advantages but for her, not enough advantages. As she fights to prove her innocence, she watches all that she held dear unravel. Will justice happen for her and will she be able to survive the time it will take to happen? Sidetracked is definitely on my top 10 list of books. It’s a must read suitable for men or women. I would even say it’s appropriate for older teens. It was an absolutely delight to read. This is my honest review in exchange for this book from the Book Club Network.

Sidetracked is an engaging mystery whose story will keep the reader involved until the last page. This mystery is not a gruesome nailbiter, but more a mental exercise to see who is responsible for recent and former murders. Delanie Miller has built a new life for herself, based on assuming a new identity and picking a false name. No one from her former life knows where she is, she thinks, and no one in her new life knows who she was. Her future, her love, her fortune, and her life depend on maintaining this. But can she trust God to “according to your (His) love remember me (her). With a recent murder, Delanie cannot allow a simple minded young man to falsely be blamed for this death, so she puts everything at risk to defend him. We are all routing for Delanie (Laura) to succeed and in doing so, put her on demons to rest. I enjoyed reading this. The plot moved along swiftly. When the story jumps back and forth between the present ( 2013) and the past (1995) it is well noted so the reader is never confused. The mystery is very believable and exciting to see unfold. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest opinion.

SIDETRACKED is the story of two characters: 34-year-old Delanie and 16-year-old Laura. The first person narrative flips back and forth between their stories of –to use the train imagery used by Pete-an innocent being “railroaded” and truth being “sidetracked”. Delanie’s portion deals with her attempts to help slow-witted Billy get out from under his indictment for the murder of her own friend. Delanie’s life becomes filled with great foreboding and soul-searching as she tries to help him while protecting her own long-held secrets. As she says, “The truth was everything to me. And the truth was the one thing I could not give.” Laura’s sections are painful to read as she is forced to grieve for her dead mother, face the betrayal of her family and her friends, and lose all hope that anyone will believe her innocence. The reader is overwhelmed by her despair and helplessness. She is trapped by a system and people who are supposed to protect her. Her situation and the situation Delanie is investigating kill the spirit and will to live. Then, to quote Delanie,”My two worlds were about to collide, trains on the same track. And I couldn’t find the brakes.” Such a heartbreaking story of the failure of the justice system to find the right person guilty of murder! SIDETRACKED is the story of ruthless greed and senseless killing and wrongful imprisonment. However, it is also the story of redemption and hope and the beauty only God can bring from ashes. As a reader, I was totally emotionally involved from the beginning and compulsively read until 4 A.M., hoping that things would turn out all right. The ending was satisfying and cathartic, but the author kept me an emotional wreck until we got there. Great story with some great, strong characters determined to do right regardless of the cost. I received this book through The Book Club Network, but the opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is a fantanstic book. Realistic characters. Suspense with unexpected twists and turns. An intreresting imagining of life for the innocent charged guilty.

Sidetracked by Brandilyn Collins starts off with "In the beginning comes the end." This suspenseful fast read is about Delanie Miller who sees a hooded person in the bushes when she finds her friend Clara's body. She is hesitant to call for help. Years of fear, pain, and loneliness tumbled into her head, and we get our first glimpse of Delanie's dark secret. Written in the first person, the story moves quickly. Delanie chooses to defend Billy King who is wrongfully accused of the murder. Her decision to do so puts her at risk. Even though she fears exposure, it is because of her past that Delanie is driven to see justice for Billy. Unaware that this was a Christian book, I was disappointed when Ms. Collins uses the Lord, like a deus ex machina, to save Delanie. With a little effort, I am sure she could have written a more convincing ending.
