About the Author

Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (1621-1676) was a German writer. Born during the Thirty-Years War, von Grimmelshausen was kidnapped by Hessian soldiers and eventually became a soldier himself. He later adapted many of his experiences to his picaresque novel SIMPLCIUS SIMPLICISSIMUS.
