Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life by Jenna Bush Hager, Barbara Pierce Bush

Former first daughters Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush share intimate stories and reflections from the Texas countryside to the storied halls of the White House and beyond — now with a new chapter about their beloved "Ganny," Barbara Bush.

Born into a political dynasty, Jenna and Barbara Bush grew up in the public eye. As small children, they watched their grandfather become president; just twelve years later they stood by their father's side when he took the same oath. They spent their college years watched over by Secret Service agents and became fodder for the tabloids, with teenage mistakes making national headlines.
But the tabloids didn't tell the whole story. In SISTERS FIRST, Jenna and Barbara take readers on a revealing, thoughtful, and deeply personal tour behind the scenes of their lives, as they share stories about their family, their unexpected adventures, their loves and losses, and the sisterly bond that means everything to them.

Loved every minute of this book. Jenna & Barbara have wonderful writing skills and have managed to share their fascinating lives with vivid emotion and detail. Thought I knew the bulk of information that would be covered, but there were so many stories that have never been shared! Many of their memories are bittersweet yet heart warming. Even if I wasn't a Texan, I know I'd still enjoy this book!

Filled with all kinds of memories unique to twins, the antidotes give a shotgun effect throughout the book. I enjoyed reading about their real lives.

Thank you to Grand central Publishing for sending me a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. Memoirs are my absolute favorite type of nonfiction, hands down. I love getting a glimpse into the lives of people I see from afar, the opportunity to see them as normal everyday people instead of just the untouchable famous person on my television screen. So when Alana over at Grand Central Publishing reached out asking if we’d like to review a copy of the Bush twins’ new memoir, I was all over that like a fly on poo. Jenna and Barbara’s words did not disappoint. I absolutely loved hearing their sisterly tales from both their child- and adulthood. Their bond is palpable. At 236 pages, we are offered only the briefest of glances into their lives, and yet it was enough to turn “the president’s daughters” into “real people that I would love to meet”. The first line of their acknowledgements reads, “Sisters First isn’t a typical memoir, but rather a love story we wrote to each other”, and that’s exactly what this book felt like. With each chapter I found myself looking back on my own life with my sisters and our shared stories and experiences. This book was both a treat and a treasure, and I can’t wait for others to read it and start sharing their own sister stories.

The Bush daughters have written a very interesting book. I did not realize that their father has his own wounded warrior "project."

“Sisters First” is the joint memoir of the daughters of America’s premier political family but it is much more than that. Authorship of the sections alternate between Barbara and Jenna. The collection of anecdotes presents growth from the expectation that everyone’s grandfather had an inaugural parade through the realization that ordering a pizza was a challenge for a girl named Barbara Bush, the terror of being the President’s daughter on 9-11, the fear of having your father through the first pitch out at the World Series a few days later, the pain of losing a grandfather and a boyfriend, to the satisfaction of motherhood and professional success. I enjoyed the insight into the Bush family and life of White House residents as well as twins and a family held together by love. Some stores are humorous and others we can relate to, yes, they too ride Southwest Airlines. “Sisters First” is a quick, light read that most readers will enjoy.

I didn’t hate it but many of the stories are just so unrelatable.

One of the best surprises is how beautifully Jenna and Barbara write! Another good surprise is that their dad made straight A's! What a loving family!

Wonderful! Anyone with a sibling should read this. It will make you laugh out loud and bring a tear to your eye at other times. These are two people I'd like to meet and be able to call friends. Plus, the love for their whole family shines through. It's too bad many of these Bush family stories weren't known by the general public before...they demonstrate what a real family is all about. Highly recommend this book.

Interesting. At first was a little difficult to follow. After a while it got easier. Much love is recognized for family throughout the entire book. Once you get past the roughness then it became smooth sailing. Enjoyed reading it. Can't wait to read her next book.
