The author traces six significant themes in the Gospel of Luke and explores their meanings—for Luke and for us today in the church. Luke's Gospel features ever-widening circles of activity—throughout the life of Jesus. Many social and cultural "boundaries" are crossed in Luke's narrative of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. This volume includes material for participants as well as outlines and guidance for leading all six sessions.

The Six Themes Everyone Should Know series introductes biblical books and their main themes. Each volume consists of six chapters that present major biblical themes; each chapter contains an introduction and three major sections:

• What does the biblical theme mean?
• What is the meaning of this biblical theme for the life of faith?
• What does the biblical theme mean for the church at this point in history for action?

About the Author

John T. Carroll is the Harriet Robertson Fitts Memorial Professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He is also the coeditor of Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology and the cochair of the Gospel of Luke section for the Society of Biblical Literature. Carroll is the author or editor of numerous works, including Luke: A Commentary in the esteemed New Testament Library series, for which he also serves on the editorial board.

Eva Stimson is a graduate of the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary), a freelance writer/editor, an oil painter, and the former editor of Presbyterians Today.
