Sixteen Horses is so well written we were hard pressed to believe it’s a debut. Intense and atmospheric, it’s got the heft of Henning Mankel’s Kurt Wallander novels. You’d also be in the right company if you made these other “if you like” comparisons: Ian Rankin, Denise Mina and Broadchurch by Erin Kelly. We were captivated from the opening line.
