A deserted mansion perches on a steep hillside, overlooking a rocky canyon. Tattered curtains hang behind broken windows, and a turret stretches toward the sky. Three years ago the wealthy owner disappeared suddenly, leaving behind a house full of secrets: A mysterious note, tantalizing clues, a hidden floor, one piece of a treasure map, and a missing fortune in diamonds.

Thirteen-year-old sleuth Skylar Robbins moves into the mansion with her parents and embarks on a new and dangerous mission. Armed with her detective kit, and with the support of her BFF Alexa and a team of secret agents, Skylar sets out to decipher the clues and find the diamonds. Can she outwit a gang of older bullies and find the hidden jewels before they do? Or will the perils of middle school--like battling ruthless Emelyn Peters for the attention of class hottie Dustin Coles--get in her way?

Skylar Robbins: The Mystery of the Hidden Jewels is an Amazon #1 Bestseller in Children's Detective Books, was voted Book-of-the-Month by LASR readers, won the 5-star Reader's Favorite award, and was a Top Ten Finalist for an Author Academy Award in the YA/Middle Grade category.

Reviewed by Jessica Barbosa for Readers' Favorite The Mystery of the Hidden Jewels: Skylar Robbins Book 2 by Carrie Cross centers around skinny, thirteen-year-old Skylar Robbins who loves mysteries and dreams of being an undercover detective like her grandfather. It is her love of mysteries and challenges that draws her to a mysterious mansion whose owner, Xandra Collins, disappeared three years ago and left behind an intriguing note, saying she had hidden her famous jewelry box somewhere on the estate and the one to find it will inherit it. But while the hunt for the missing jewelry may bring Skylar an exciting, unforgettable adventure, if she isn't careful she might find herself caught up in trouble she has no way of escaping. Skylar Robbins's adventures are brimming with excitement, mystery, and adventure. Skylar is brilliant, stubborn, and brave. Cross had me in endless awe at how she perfectly mixed the thrill of mysteries and adventure with the normal worries of a thirteen-year-old girl going into middle school and trying to fit in with a new crowd. The balance between Skylar's detective life and her middle school troubles made it easier to relate to her and I found myself looking forward not only to the answers to the mansion's mysteries, but to seeing how Skylar would overcome the usual troubles of a teenager. And when I thought I had Skylar figured out, she quickly proved me wrong and her actions and decisions constantly had me on the edge of my seat. The story is invigorating, appealing, and the foreshadowing helped build up so much anticipation in me that I felt like I was going to explode if I didn't reach the end sooner. The plot was clever and well-paced and the way the story ended had me definitely thirsting for more from this mystery series.

Skylar Robbins and the Mystery of the Hidden Jewels by Carrie Cross is the second book in the Skylar Robbins series. Skylar and her parents are looking at new homes and Skylar wants to make sure she will be attending the same school; she doesn't want to be the new kid. She believes there is an unsolved mystery in their new home and things become even more suspicious when the remodeling workers, which were recommended by the neighbors, are looking around and Skylar notices. Skylar and her friend Alexa work to solve the puzzle of the missing jewels of Xandra Collins, the previous owner of Skylar's new home. The two friends also help each other cope with school problems, such as Alexa's dyslexia and mean girl drama. This sequel in the Skylar Robbins series proves that young people can be great detectives too and being a true friend is very important. Skylar Robbins is the Nancy Drew for a new generation, 5 stars.

Adults Will Enjoy This Too. The Mystery of the Hidden Jewels is the second book in the Skylar Robbins series. While this book and series is written for middle schoolers, adults will enjoy it to. At least this adult did. These books are Nancy Drew for the 21st century. While this book can be read as a standalone, it does end with a huge cliffhanger clue for the next book in the series. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This book continues where Book 1 left off, which I liked. I like Skylar's use of the detective skills her grandfather taught her. This book is filled with the normal everyday life drama that goes on with preteens just starting seventh grade. The author does a good job with keeping the characters real and believable. Even if the storyline in this book is harder to believe. I do want to continue to read the more of the series. And will read the next book just to see if Skylar can find the missing heiress now that she recovered her jewels. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
