Snowed Under (The Leafy Hollow Mysteries, #5) by Rickie Blair

When a crossword craze turns lethal, can a green PI solve the clues before the killer makes it two down?

With Leafy Hollow in a deep winter freeze, landscaper Verity Hawkes is all out of funds. Setting up a private investigator business seems like the best way to indulge her fantasy and make a few bucks. But she never expected her first case would turn the whole town against her.

As she investigates a shady, million-dollar crossword competition, even her detective boyfriend sides with her neighbors in thinking it's legit. But when the contest seems to connect with scruffy dog walkers and a dead village hoarder, Verity's determined to puzzle out a solution before the whole town descends into a word-smithing frenzy.

With time running out, can Verity find the killer before the culprit delivers another deadly answer?

Snowed Under is the fifth installment in a series of charmingly funny cozy mysteries. If you like quirky characters, twisty plots, and laugh-out-loud moments, then you'll love Rickie Blair's Leafy Hollow series.

About the Author

For over two decades I've has been a financial journalist, with a particular interest in frauds and scams and how they ruin lives.

My love for fiction writing led to the creation of fraud investigators Ruby Delaney and Hari Bhatt, who "separate the pros from their cons." Ruby's a troubled actress and Hari's the financial genius who would do anything for her.

I make my home in southern Ontario with assorted rescued pets and an overactive Netflix account.

Snowed Under by Rickie Blair was a fun addition to the Leafy Hollow Mysteries. Verity is once again on the case as Leafy Hollow has been enticed by a million dollar mystery crossword puzzle. Verity has her doubts about this intriguing puzzle and then there is not one but two suspicious deaths. With the "storm of the century" heading toward Leafy Hollow, can Verity put all the clues together before she becomes part of the frozen landscape? The plot moved swiftly and there plenty of suspects along with twists that kept me guessing until the reveal. I'm already looking forward to the next one in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.

Verity just can't stop snooping... Welcome to the sleepy little village of Leafy Hollow where snow abounds and murder is not unknown. Our main character, Verity, has at this point overcome her anxiety and panic attacks that we learned about in From Garden to Grave. Her boyfriend, Jeff, wants desperately to protect her from her own curiosity and snooping. But Verity cannot ignore two murders practically in her own back yard. I loved once more joining Verity as she sifts through the inhabitants of Leafy Hollow trying to find answers about two seemingly unrelated murders. I greatly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone seeking a pleasant evening of reading. The characters are interesting and the plot is well planned with the killer remaining a surprise till the end. I received an Advance Reader Copy of Snowed Under through BookFunnel and am voluntarily writing this review.

An enjoyable cozy mystery! There’s a lot going on in this book! I love Verity as a main character. I’ve read several of the books previous in this series. The books can be standalone but the author is very good about explaining things in each book so you are not lost if you have not read any previous books. I thought this book was fairly fast paced with several plots and enjoyable characters. I like that Verity is starting her own PI business during a boring winter off from her landscaping business. She definitely is not bored this winter! There’s a crossword puzzle scandal, murder, a dog, a best friend and a relationship with her boyfriend that seems to be moving to the next level. I went along for the wild ride and was a bit surprised at how things ended but immensely pleased with the story overall!
