Overview

Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. Her only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. When she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year's Eve costume party, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon, the son of a major general, is an ROTC student. With his father now fighting dementia, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud by graduating as an officer. Then he meets Steph, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who's stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph's resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph's wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Sydney Logan’s “Soldier On” is a pure and sweet romance. Stephanie, the leading lady, is a strong survivor of a gal, and you really feel like you can walk a mile in her shoes. Brandon, the leading man, is G.I. Joe! He’s a sexy, loyal, alpha, military guy, so what’s not to love? It’s a standalone book with a nice happily ever after. If you need a quick pick me up, read this. You won’t be able to put it down and it’ll warm your heart.

Platypire Reviews by Mel Solider On by Sydney Logan *was generously given this book in exchange for a honest review….Thank you SOLIDER ON by Sydney Logan is a sweet, coming into one’s self, stand alone, happy ever after, love story. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this story. What a great read!!! I mean it. It is not something I would normally pick up because it almost borderlines on YA but I loved it none the less.  SOLIDER ON is the story of Steph and Brandon.  Steph hates everything to do with the military and Brandon is in the ROTC program, about to graduate and has already signed up for 4 years. Problem!!! It is a love story that evolves through friendship and love. Steph has her demons but as she faces them and becomes the person she is meant to be her fears disappear and she finds out what is truly important. Brandon is a NICE, respectable, deceit guy.  I loved them both. It was a little strange, but I keep thinking, “Man, I hope my daughter finds a guy like this.” That is the best compliment I could give an author. SOLIDER ON is a love story and goes back to old school values. Brandon treats Steph how a lady should be treated and takes care of his family. Again, I loved it. The best part on the whole story for me was the love of the 80s that Steph and Brandon have.  There are many great movie references and who cannot love a guy that loves The Princess Bride and wears an Inigo Montoya shirt. SOLIDER ON receives 5 out of 5 Platypires!!! Texas Hugs and Happy Reading!!!

It was a good book I finished it but its what I expected. I expected more of a dilemma or more drama when Stephanie found out Brandon was a solider. Still a good book just not what I expected.

In my opinion, Soldier On was everything a great romance is meant to be. Poignant, realistic, and engaging - it was hard to put down. With a lead male like Brandon who was sweet, loving, caring – he just made you sigh. The love scenes were truly romantic - not graphically sexual and as a reader I felt Sydney Logan depicted love more than lust – which is refreshing. I highly recommend it and give 4 ½ stars. Thank you so much to Sydney Logan for providing me with a copy of Soldier On in exchange for an honest review. – Jennifer

This is a standalone book.  It is Stephanie and Brandon's story. I gave this book 5 stars.  Stephanie lost her dad even before she was born to the war.  He left and never came home. This has left her heartbroken and bitter towards anything at all to do with the military. Brandon is a soldier, when these two meet and sparks fly. They fall. They are captivated and start to spend all their free time together. BUT when Brandon finds out how she feels about soldiers he keeps it to himself that he himself is a soldier too. He doesn't want to lose her and doesn't know how she will react once he does tell her. So as time goes by he realizes he is going to have to tell her, but how is she going to handle this? The only man that should have been in Steph's life growing up was taken from her, and now she loves another solider. Can she get past her feelings about the military to give Brandon the chance he deserves?  Or will she leave him when she finds out? And if she does give him a chance will he end up leaving her exactly the same way her father did? Read this captivating, can't stop turning the page story to find out!  This story kept me hooked from the turn of the first page. I was so enthralled in the story between these two characters. They were both sweet and loving kids in college. Life just gave them both a few bad things in their lives. Standing together is the logical choice, but when you have been nothing hurt but what it has dealt you it is hard to do that. Watching Steph grow into the woman that she did in this book was awesome sauce!! Brandon was nothing but patient and loving with her. He would have waited forever for her. Thank you for a wonderful book Sydney! I cannot wait to read more of your work in the future! <3

When I sat down to read Soldier On by Sydney Logan, I knew that I was in for a good read. I've read all of her books, and love her writing style, but this one was different. I found myself falling in love with Brandon and Stephanie. Both of them were so endearing and real, focused and committed to their futures, but they were scared. And their feelings leapt off the pages. Stephanie's fears, her feelings toward the military were complete understandable, given her circumstances. Unlike so many characters, I never found myself annoyed with her. She loved Brandon, but she was afraid. Life with a soldier isn't something that should be taken without great thought. Her relationship with her mother reminded me of the relationship I have with my own mother, their closeness was touching and real. Brandon's father really touched me, and I won't spoil it by telling you too many details, but his life, the way he was losing himself to a cruel and harsh world was breathtakingly written. The anger and resentment felt by everyone involved, the need to protect each other, and their friends was amazing, and I found myself wishing that I could have friends like that, people who would slap me upside the head and tell me to get my act together. I highly recommend Soldier On to anyone looking for a great read, and I thank Sydney Logan for the chance to read such an amazing story.

This a beautifully written love story. These days so many writers rely on the sexual aspect of a relationship to convey a love story. While I do enjoy a good lemon (and have my fair share of smut in my library) there was so much more love conveyed here without resorting to sex as a driver. Ms Logan is able to capture and convey the emotion of love and romance so unbelievably well and proves a good love story isn't just physical. This one will effect you in the heart. Not only is it a powerful example of romantic love but also the love of friends and family. I always enjoy Ms. Logan's writing but I think this one is my favorite of hers.

Soldier On is a sweet romance that tugs at the heartstrings.  Brandon and Steph are in their senior year of college, which I related with them on a personal level there.  Steph carries a heavy weight on her heart concerning the military, as her father was a fallen soldier.  It seems unlikely that she'll ever get over the loss of the man she never knew.  Brandon is the son of a soldier, striving to meet his father's expectations.  When their worlds collide, sparks ignite and both are faced with unforeseen diversions from their set course.  Yet, all the while they both realize that the only way their love can work is to 'soldier on'. I must say, I went into this book thinking I'd find another Dear John type story.  I was wonderfully surprised.  Sydney Logan out did herself with this one.  I was instantly drawn into the worlds of Brandon and Steph and fell deeply in love with each of the characters.  This is a book I'd recommend to anyone searching for a true love story.  It's definitely made its way on to my favorites list, and I know it will yours too.
