Thomas Kyd was born in 1558 and is most noted as a pivotal figure in the development of Elizabethan drama. In his own time he was highly praised but fell into obscurity until re-discovery in the late 1700's. his most famous work is The Spanish Tragedy, or Hieronimo is Mad Again, a tragedy written between 1582 and 1592 and established the then new genre of the revenge play.
