I love the MAIN STREET series. I love the simplicity and innocence of the stories, but they are not by any stretch of the imagination cheesy or weak. This installment was about Aunt Allie's adopting a new baby. Both Flora and Ruby are greatly surprised by this, and also delighted. While Flora narrates some of what happens, this story was told mainly by Ruby. Ruby has a few problems, such as not practicing for the Thanksgiving concert and messing up. She needs to accept responsibility for herself. That was a great side story, along with how all these different characters celebrate Thanksgiving. I especially loved the trip to New York City. I highly recommend these books because of their simplicity and innocence, but also because they are entertaining, too. SPECIAL DELIVERY was another great installment. My fifth grade girls have been picking up these books and have been wanting more.

I've read all the books in this series with my daughter. My daughter, who is now 10, has loved all of them. This 8th one she gave to me as a gift to read together!

I would give this book an A in terms of the setting because I felt like I was living on Main Street with Flora and Ruby! But I would give it a C because I already knew what was happening since the first chapter! No suspense whatsoever!!

I would not recommend this unless a parent has first read and then approved. Author has too many radical ideas; not proper for young children. She rams ideas down throats that may not be in keeping with what you want your children to be reading. These are NOT universally accepted norms, and I am tired of a minority of people thinking that they should be. She writes well/intelligently. But suddenly she slips in ideas and morals as though everyone just accepts them; I have a problem with that. They these concepts just suddenly appear in the story; if you are not careful, you may miss them. And a child may therefore think that these are accepted ways of thinking. Was going to recommend the series to young reader; but I am not that "modern" or forward in my way of thinking. Too bad; was a very good series otherwise.
