Spells and Scones is the sixth book in the Magical Bakery series by Bailey Cates. I think this is my favorite in the series so far. I've enjoyed the series, but this is the first one I've felt was worth 4 stars. I really enjoyed this latest installment of the Magical Bakery series. I've enjoyed the series, they're certainly entertaining, but they haven't always received a real high rating from me. This one actually rates a 4 out of 5. This is one I'd actually be willing to read a 2nd or 3rd or 4th time. I felt that this time around, the story was much more complex and involved. The first few books, I pretty much figured it out way before the end. A couple of them, I figured out before I was even halfway thru the book. I had a slight suspicion of the villain but I was never entirely sure until right at the very end of the book. I felt we got to know our characters even better. I will admit that I was a little surprised at a particular part between Declan & Katie (not saying anymore about WHAT part as I don't want to spoil anything!). I was mostly surprised because Katie had made things pretty clear in that area in previous books. But, it works out in the end. All in all, I really enjoyed this installment. I do suggest reading the other books in the series before jumping in and reading this one. There's nothing wrong with the other books. They're fun to read and certainly entertaining. I just liked this one better!

This series is SOO GOOD, I flew through this story even those I tried not to. You just can't put it down. You can't. Trust me. Its fast paced , never long boring decriptions but you still get the picture in your head like you should & I love that. But katie, lucy & the rest of the spellbook group are so likeable & relatible. The ending brought happy tears too. I'm not ever one to give the story away. So I'll just say you won't go wrong buying this book! Happy Reading & Happy Thanksgiving.XO Rhonnihop16

Spells and Scones is the sixth book in the A Magical Bakery Mystery series. The bookstore down the street from the Honeybee Bakery is having Dr. Dana Dobbs to sign her new book. One attendee starts telling every that her advice almost ruined his relationship with his current wife and a lady, Angie Kissel who has been accused of stalking Dr. Dana. At the end of the signing, Dr. Dana goes to stockroom in the back to sign the remaining stock of her books. She is soon found dead and Katie’s aunt Lucie is sure that she has been poisoned. Katie soon finds out the Angie is a former practicing witch and that Mungo, Katie’s familiar was once Angie’s. With a pleading look, Mungo is able to convince Katie that Angie is innocent and Katie starts to look for the real killer. With the help of the members of her spellbook club, she hopes to learn who the killer is before she becomes the next victim. Delectable recipes are also included in the book. Looking forward to another book in this series.

As all the books in this series are, this one is great for light reading. Characters are lovably quirky snd the plot is interesting without requiring too much thought. I love reading these books between more serious reading. Stephanie Clanahan
