If you're reading this, I'm already dead…

That's the note seventeen-year-old Haley Cooke leaves behind when she disappears from inside her high school. FBI profiler Evelyn Baine is called in to figure out who had reason to hurt her. On the surface, the popular cheerleader has no enemies, but as Evelyn digs deeper, she discovers that everyone close to Haley has something to hide. Everyone from estranged parents, to an older boyfriend with questionable connections, to a best friend who envies Haley's life.

Secrets can be deadly…

One of those secrets may have gotten Haley killed. If she's still alive, Evelyn knows that the more the investigation ramps up, the more pressure they could be putting on Haley's kidnapper to make her disappear for good. It's also possible the teenager isn't in danger at all, but has skillfully manipulated everyone and staged her own disappearance. Only one thing is certain: uncovering Haley's fate could be dangerous—even deadly—to Evelyn herself.

I'm a big fan of Elizabeth Heiter's Profiler series so I was really looking forward to this book, and I wasn't disappointed. It's an excellent mystery, actually 2 mysteries. An intriguing puzzle that comes to a exciting and satisfying conclusion. Character development in a series is important for me to really stay connected over many books. Ms. Heiter has given us people to really care about. Evelyn and Kyle are officially together now so there is a touch of romance. Their relationship is important but she has also given us strong secondary characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery/suspense book.

Haley Cook is the perfect high school girl. Pretty, straight A’s, cheerleader, etc. But the last time anyone saw her was one month prior when her boyfriend Jordan dropped her off for cheerleading practice. But then her mother finds a notebook that the police missed. The first line reads, “If you are reading this, I’m already dead.” But who would want to hurt Haley? Evelyn Baine, a FBI Profiler, is called in to investigate. It seems that there is more to Hailey’s life than you first see. It seems that everyone has some secret that they are trying to keep hidden. Then Evelyn’s partner, Kyle McKenzie, is working on the attack of a college student that will only talk to the FBI. It seems this is a human trafficking case that may be related to Hailey’s disappearance. This is an action packed thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. Although everything seems perfect for Hailey, her life is far from it. How does her biological father fit in with her step father, how jealous is her best friend, does her college aged boyfriend have anything to do with this, how does a human trafficking case link in, and how is this going to affect Evelyn as she starts remembering her childhood friend disappearing? There are so many twists and turns that you will be reading into the early hours of the night just to see what happens next. This is a great thriller and although it is the fourth book in the series you can read it as a stand-alone book. I loved this story and I will definitely be purchasing the other three in the series. I can’t wait to see what I missed and for future books. I received Stalked from the publisher for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

A teen has gone missing and the case has been assigned to FBI profiler Evelyn Baine. She is to assist Detective Sophia Lopez and prepare a profile on the suspected kidnapper. Lopez suspects the missing teen’s boyfriend knows more than he is telling the police. Kyle McKenzie, FBI agent, interviewed a teen who had been badly beaten and told McKenzie that a sex trafficking ring was involved. Before they could obtain more information, she died. The missing teen’s boyfriend was attending the college that the dead teen attended. As McKenzie investigates a potential sex trafficking ring and Baine continues her search for the missing teen and kidnapper, the cases overlap and they work together. This was the first book by Elizabeth Heiter that I have read and now plan to go back and read the other two books about the FBI profilers/agents. I received an ARC of the book from Goodreads and thoroughly enjoyed the book. I highly recommend it for a suspenseful read!

The intense investigation that burst into a riveting action at the moment's notice as the investigators put their own lives at risk as they are trying to solve the myriad of crimes that come to the light while trying to profile the kidnapper of the missing girl. If you are a fan of the early production of Patricia Cornwell and her Scarpetta novels like I am, you are going to enjoy the profiler series, as they echo the same kind of atmosphere, darkness, and female lead who is not afraid of taking the dangerous leaps that are required in her job, while struggling with her personal life and with her formerly somewhat secretive romantic life. The book is built upon the investigation of the multiple crimes as the team digs deep in, to find who, what, where, and when. I loved how their actions and the conversations build the case, revealed the clues, and at the same time made my mind work double as trying to figure it out in my head what had truly happened. The detail oriented structure of the story compelled to hang on every word, and not miss a moment to keep up with the clues and the evidence coming forward. I felt that Haley had warmth and ease within her more than in the previous story, she was easier to approach and had more benevolence than before, and I liked that. It was easier to relate to her, like her and cheer for her. Her family issues brought a human side of her up front and made her more relatable. Kyle is such a natural part of her life now. I loved that they got to work together on the case and that through the story there wasn't a moment when Kyle pulled out superiority on her, they were true equals, even in a gun fight. In spite of being a part of a series, I think it would be easy to jump into the action from this title on. The author gives enough back information to make it easy to follow the story without having read the previous books, yet the story doesn't feel repetitive to those who have been following the series. Vivid images of a cruel and callous crimes, the kind that seeps into your dreams, vigorous and determined investigation with brisk energy that kept me on the edge and deliberating on the evidence, kept me guessing and in awe with Haley's ability to turn tidbits of information into a solid lead, and her ability to keep on going despite a several severe attacks towards herself as well. A story that left me eagerly waiting for more in the series! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

I have had the good fortune to read this series from the beginning. Although each book can stand alone, each book leaves you looking forward to more. This series is becoming better and better with each book. The story is told from Evelyn Blaine’s point of view. Evelyn is an FBI profiler called in when there is an abduction or someone is missing and the local police seek more help looking at the victim for answers. You are engaged from the first sentence and the suspense carries you through the book. I love the well developed characters, the growing relationship between the characters, Evelyn and Kyle, another FBI agent. I recommend this series if you enjoy the suspense of solving a mystery with many twists and turns, and the way the book leaves you waiting for the next adventure.
