Star Nomad (Fallen Empire Series #1) by Lindsay Buroker

The Alliance has toppled the tyrannical empire. It should be a time for celebration, but not for fighter pilot Captain Alisa Marchenko. After barely surviving a crash in the final battle for freedom, she's stranded on a dustball of a planet, billions of miles from her young daughter. She has no money or resources, and there are no transports heading to Perun, her former home and the last imperial stronghold.

But she has a plan.

Steal a dilapidated and malfunctioning freighter from a junkyard full of lawless savages. Slightly suicidal, but she believes she can do it. Her plan, however, does not account for the elite cyborg soldier squatting in the freighter, intending to use it for his own purposes. As an imperial soldier, he has no love for Alliance pilots. In fact, he's quite fond of killing them.

Alisa has more problems than she can count, but she can't let cyborgs, savages, or ancient malfunctioning ships stand in her way. If she does, she'll never see her daughter again.

Fans of Firefly and Star Wars should enjoy this fun, fast-paced new series from USA Today best-selling author, Lindsay Buroker.

This is a fun story to read. I like the captain's sense of humor and how some of the other characters don't understand it! I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A good beginning to a series. Not much in the way of romance though so if your hoping for that don't bother. ................. ..........................................................................

Lindsay I'm going to give you 5 stars, but this story was very "Emperor's Edge" has a baby with "Firefly". It is a fun read and has lots of action. The characters are likeable, and Leonidas is just different enough from Sicarius to keep me from throwing a penalty flag on you.

I enjoyed it. I appreciate the excellent banter between characters which really brought them to life. Sometimes things were made a bit too easy, like the ability to steal the captains ship. They can space travel but dont have anti theft tech? :) DMB

Excellent sci fi space adventure. Action packed, tragedy, power struggles, & a slow build up of sexual tension between feisty Alisa & the stone faced cyborg, which I thought was great. Alisa was a topnotch fighter pilot with a sense of humor that burst out of her when they were under the most dangerous situations. She irritates the heck out of the emotionless but hot cyborg. On to book #2! As the two of them & the rest of her quirky & funny crew fly off in Alisa's space ship onto further adventures to right what's wrong in the galaxy!
