Beautifully honest and genuine - Mandy shares her life experiences like a close friend. She shares the happenings of her own, real life as a follower of Christ to demonstrate how the light shines brightest in even the darkest times, what appears dark and empty at first glance can be filled with goodness, and how God is at work in our lives even when we do not realize it. Light and dark, success and failure, sadness and joy - our lives are dichotomous. The stories Mandy shares help us to see the hope, wonder, and kindness that can be inspired and discovered in all aspects of our lives. This book will reach the hearts and minds of all women - helping them to take the next step in their faith journey, whatever that step may be.

Starry Eyed was a page turner and all around great book for me. I loved the poetic style to Mandy's story telling and appreciate her vulnerability in sharing her stories. As moms we live in the chaotic swirl of motherhood and feel if things aren't perfect that we are doing it wrong. Starry Eyed encourages women to embrace good and bad, rest and busyness, etc. It beautifully describes how God is in it all, that even in the bad times and busyness of day to day life we can find the wonders of God. My favorite chapter is all about sister courage and how we as moms need to hold each other up from time to time, I love that! Each chapter ended with questions that could be used for reflecting on your own story or as a starting point to change it. The stories were wonderful examples of God's unending love for all of us and His existence in all aspects of our lives.

I could not put this book down! It is so beautifully written and absolutely divinely inspired in so many ways. Mandy is a gifted and poetic communicator, and this collection of vulnerable and truth-filled essays breathed life into me. I love the way she connects elaborate narrative with thoughtful introspection and cultural commentary. I adore how she challenges women to think about dichotomies - specifically light and dark. God created both and he called them good! Having grown up in the church and having wrestled with a lot of darkness in my own life, I so appreciate Mandy's vulnerability in this book. I have found the darkest points of my life have turned into the brightest stories, and I love the permission Mandy gives all women and moms to fear not the darkness, but instead find wonder, hope, kindness and opportunities to see God in new ways in this book.

LOVED the stories in Starry-Eyed. It’s written with whimsy (very poetical at parts) but has some great things to say about being a mom and balancing it all. I love the author’s honest approach to being a wife and mother while considering her sense of self and how to approach this life with more hope and wonder. It’s got some spiritual undertones, and it really made me see the bigger picture and renew my faith in the midst of these crazy times we live in. Highly recommend this book to anyone who’s open minded and open-hearted and wants to honestly look at their life in a different, better way.

A collection of essays that beautifully captures the swirling emotions we experience in motherhood. I especially loved the Q & R at the end of each essay - perfect for individual contemplation or a small group study. Reading this book helped me to embrace both the light and dark in my life, to see the good in both, and to live fully in all of it.

The book Starry-Eyed by Mandy Arioto is a collection of essays about motherhood, friendship, relationships, and loving and seeing God through it all. It's almost like a less sappy version of Chicken Soup for the Soul. Arioto is the President of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) International. She shares her experiences raising children as well as her experiences with many other moms to bring this love filled, life filled book to her readers. The essays include topics such as finding light in the dark times, finding courage and strength in friends, going back to nature, and teaching our kids to hear God. It is difficult for me to describe exactly what you will encounter in her book. Each essay brought different thoughts to mind for me and I am sure each would be a different experience for others depending on what they have gone through. Personally, reading about friendship and drawing strength from it made me realize why I often feel so weak. I don't have a lot of friends and it's important for me to be around friends and get that strength and courage back. The essay that really hit a strong point for me was finding the light in dark times. I have been through a lot of dark times myself and this essay really pinpointed how important it is to look for that light, that glimmer of hope, in every dark time that you go through. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I highly recommend this book to any mom out there who is looking for some inspiration to get through the day-to-day grind of motherhood, relationships, and life. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the BookLook Bloggers program in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is a beautiful collection of essays about motherhood and life. Each one is thoughtfully written with discussion questions at the end to prompt the reader to not only think personally about what was said but enter into dialogue with others. This book is a quick read on the surface but one you keep coming back to and digesting and longing to dig deeper into. It prompts you to get to know yourself and those around you in meaningful ways. Mandy doesn't just share where she has found light in the darkness, she invites readers to do the same as we look at our community, our life rhythms, friendships, our own story, and the legacy we are leaving to our children. I was provided an advance copy of this book.

This book is a delight! As a collection of essays, I have been savory get each one throughout the summer. As I reflect and unpack the truths in each essay, it's like I am reading a letter from a dear friend and mentor. Each entry of this thought provoking book has inspired me to dig a little deeper into myself. It has helped me to let go of that which hinders me and embrace the parts that need to be developed and grow. This is a great book for anyone wanting a guide on their life path.

An amazing book with story after story of a real life mom...just like us! Mandy McAvoy Arioto shares her heart, bares her soul and sheds her shame so that we can live freely in a dichotomous world. If you are looking for religiosity, this isn't the book for you. But if you are looking for a book where you can relate and see Jesus all at the same time, this is the book for you. You will laugh, cry (especially her story of Grandma Joan) and occasionally yell out an "amen" as Mandy gets real! #starryeyedbook #wearethestarryeyed.
