Until now. Omega, the shadow army arisen from the chaos, won't stop until every single survivor is either under their control or dead. Taken by soldiers and forced into a labor camp, Cassidy must turn the tables on her captors. Escape means everything. Unfortunately, staying out of Omega's crosshairs is easier said than done.

?
Summer began writing when she was 13 years old, due to the fact that the long afternoons after school were somewhat boring, and writing stories seemed to make the time pass a little quicker. Since then she has written many books about jungle cats, secret agents, princesses and spaceships. She is also a non-fiction writer, but her debut novel, State of Emergency, is her favorite book yet. Great Read! State Of Chaos is one crazy ride of a book. Lord I can't imagine having to survive by myself on my own instincts. I can't imagine the world being over run by a group of rough soldiers wanting things done their way. Well life is like that for Cassidy. She is literally living in a nightmare and the only person to help her through it is Chris who was a Navy SEAL. Surviving in this new Cali is a lot easier said than done but Cassidy knows she must keep fighting. All her friends are gone and her father is missing to so she knows to stay alive she must do what she has to do. Chris is there with her to help her out and she is grateful. That is until one night she is kidnapped by Omega. Now see with Omega you either do as your are told and follow them or you will be punished. So the idea that Cassidy has of escaping is not very realistic because if she is caught there will be hell to pay. But Cassidy is so determined to escape that she hatches her plan. Will she be able to get away with it or will she be captured? Where is Chris in all of this? I have to say that Summer did a great job of hooking you right in from the very beginning and keeping you there. I could not put the book down and when it was over I was looking for more. This is a great summer read to read on the beach or at the pool!

State of Chaos was filled with jaw dropping, heart pounding, and stomach aching scenes. Summer Lane did a fantastic job from the first page, with the prologue summarizing the previous book, State of Emergency. It was a great way to get thrust back into the adventure, without being heavily bogged down, and not remembering exactly what was going on. In the beginning of State of Chaos, Cassidy and Chris are heading for a trailer park to hide out. They're on a mission: to find both Chris' family and Cassidy's father, and to survive. It doesn't take long before Cassidy gets taken by Omega, and is forced into a labor camp. The scenes are quite brutal and realistic, making this book appropriate for upper teens and new adults. Quite often, we feel what she feels - heartache, anger, and devastation at their situation. As dire as the labor camp is, things get a lot worse quickly. I won't spoil the novel but I will say this: READ IT NOW. From not only the first book but throughout the second, we see changes in Cassidy's character as she grows stronger not just physically but mentally. It's a vast improvement from the naive girl that was curious and wanted to check things out, but kept finding herself in bad situations. State of Chaos, was an excellent sequel to State of Emergency. The ending leaves you shocked (but it's not a huge cliffhanger or anything) and in desperate need of the third book in the series.
