"They're out there. The danger is real... and inbound."
—Marc Royce

An under-the-radar phone call from the U.S. State Department puts Marc Royce once again on assignment—ferreting out rumors of a clandestine operation stretching from Asia to the Mideast. At stake is Iran's threat to blockade the narrow Strait of Hormuz, cutting off vital shipping routes and escalating global tensions beyond the breaking point.

Under the guise of investigating money laundering via high-end art purchases in Europe, Royce finds himself in Switzerland with only sketchy information, no backup, and without a single weapon other than his wits.

His appointment with a gallery owner in Geneva is a dead end—the man is on the floor with a bullet through his chest. But it turns out Royce does have backup. The Mossad has sent someone to keep an eye on this undercover op, which is of more than casual interest to the Israelis. And it's someone Royce knows...

A small team gathers around Royce—
a single objective against multiple enemies.

Davis Bunn did it again. No matter what book you read of his, he has you turning the pages. This one kept you on the edge and yet remained true to Bunn's writing. The Marc Royce Series are worth reading.

Strait of Hormuz, the third in Davis Bunn’s Marc Royce series has all the elements of a good story: the beautiful woman, a mysterious older woman, a daunting enemy, and lots of action. Bunn squarely nails every element! Marc Royce has become one of my favorite characters. This time he’s in Switzerland with only sketchy information, no backup, and no weapon other than his wits. He arrives at the location for his “meet” and turns around to see an old love. Suddenly aware he rushes out with her and throws her in a nearby lake – then the building blows! What a way to rekindle a romance. Davis is running a contest with the launch of this book – enter and enter often. These books are must haves – just don’t start them in the evening – you’ll be up all night!

I had never read anything by this Davis Bunn before but this sort of book is right up my alley and I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. I have to say that after finishing Strait of Hormuz I cannot wait to pick up some more of Bunn’s stories. Let me also say that this is the third book in the Marc Royce series but I had no problems reading the story on its own. I always suggest reading a series in order though for the best reading experience. Bunn was never stingy with the action and intrigue which is just how I like my thrillers! There were more than enough twists and turns to keep me up reading long into the night. The romance between Marc and Kitra was just right, not too much to distract from the story and enough so it didn’t feel ignored. This is a definite must read for action/thriller fans and a wonderful introduction to the author me. ***I received a copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own***

I've been so excited about the direction that Davis Bunn has taken in his writing career over the last  couple of years.  From the early years of writing his Regency era romance stories, to his contemporary  novels such as "Elixir", I thoroughly enjoy his latest foray into the action adventure genre with these Marc  Royce novels. Marc Royce is back in this, the third and final installment in this action-packed series by Davis Bunn.  Marc has traveled all of the world in the previous books and finds himself in Switzerland in this new novel.   Expecting to meet up with an informant, Marc finds the gallery owner dead.  Now, seemingly without  backup, Marc has to continue on with this undercover op.  Unbeknownst to Marc, though, an important  figure from his past is back to help him struggle through the current operation.  Without the official  backing of his own government or any other government agency in the different countries he must use  all the back channels he can to discover the threat that has him zeroing in at the Strait of Hormuz.  Are  there really nuclear weapons being shipped through the Strait?  What is the final target of the terrorists?   Who is providing help to Marc along the way?  Are these people friends or foes?  Begin your own  undercover op when you BUY THE BOOK!!! Mr. Bunn provides us with a fitting end to this great series.  While the body-count and action scenes aren't as plentiful as in the first couple of books, there is still a great story-line that is easy to follow.  The  character of Marc Royce continues to be a very godly man, using his spirituality to help in his decision  making throughout the different situations in the book.  I appreciate seeing how a "manly man" can still  be humbled before God and drawn to a personal relationship with Him.  This book, and the character  traits that Mr. Bunn has given to his character, should be read by everyone. Is this a "guy's book"?  This is a tremendous book with foreign goverments, terrorists, global travels and  more.  With the addition of seeing a strong man bring his faith to his daily walk, this book is definitely a  "guy's book".

I continue to be amazed at the writing of Davis Bunn. He is capable of writing on so many levels. This series, the Marc Royce Adventures, features an uncompromising man who is a determined warrior for the United States. But his loyalty is also to truth, honesty, and right. Working as an off-record CIA agent, his reputation for effectively handling impossible situations and his integrity still brings trusting involvement directed to him from high officials in the US Government. Straight of Hormuz begins explosively. It ends sweetly. Not a bad combination but it is the pages between explosive and sweet that matter. It is the international intrigue, deception, and identification of who is a good guy and who is not that create the suspense, the drama, the story. This is a story of finding God and finding oneself. It is a story of discovering what you love most in this world.  Bunn has beautifully described each and every scene and drawn believable word pictures. His characters are clearly identified yet leave room for the reader's imagination to draw their own mind pictures.  His treatment of international and terrorist threats and intervention is exciting and right on target. Again, a good book by Davis Bunn.

Marc Royce has been called back into action. This time he has been asked to unofficially look into the theft of some very rare pieces of art. He soon discovers that the thievery is a cover up of a more sinister plot. What he discovers could send shock waves throughout the entire world.  While this book can easily be read as a stand-alone novel, I personally think that you benefit from reading the whole story from the beginning. Start with Lion of Babylon to discover how Marc got kicked out of the Intelligence Agency. Then move on to Rare Earth and enjoy the beginning relationship of Marc and Kitra. Finally settle in and enjoy the unfolding story of Marc and Kitra in the very dangerous area known as the Middle East. I think what I enjoy most about these books, and especially this third one, is the way that it reads. You feel like you are reading something ripped out of the current headlines. The tension between Iran and Israel is palpable in this story. What I find very intriguing are the characters that cross cultural lines and identify with each other in the name of Christ. The storyline of Marc and Kitra is fascinating. Will they be able to make a life together or will their duties keep them apart? But even more compelling is the transformation of Rhana. Without giving away too much, I must say that the narrative of her full circle journey is one that we all should pay close attention to. It is easy to say 'I would never.' but how many times have we found ourselves right there? Let me leave you with a couple of my favorite passages from the book: "You must ask which direction will lead you closer to God. Because if you take the other direction, even if you win, even if you gain everything that you use to define success, you lose." "What I thought was lost forever is with me again. Yet I know it has been there all along. Waiting for me to stop giving in to the wrong voices, taking the wrong paths. And instead heed the one voice that will give me the two things I forgot I even needed." I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Marc Royce is back in action, and if you’ve enjoyed your journeys with him before, you’d better not miss Royce’s newest assignment. Although he has been fired as a State Department Intelligence operative, his expertise is needed in Geneva where assassinations, artwork—original and forged, and nine containers traveling from a North Korean missile factory to the Strait of Hormuz combine to set in action a contemporary suspense story that kept me as engaged as the earlier Marc Royce Adventures. And I was pretty happy to see Kitra back in the cast of this story.

Strait of Hormuz By: Davis Bunn This is the third book in the Mark Royce adventure series. The first two are Lion of Babylon and Rare Earth. I loved all of these books! Marc Royce and Kitra reunite in Strait of Hormuz to come against Iran’s threat to blockade the narrow Strait of Hormuz, which would cut off vital shipping routes and escalate global tensions. Can Marc and Kitra stop them before it’s too late? As with all of the books in this series, there are bombings, fights, and chases. If you’re looking for a great adventure, look no further. No one is who they seem, and Marc must figure out who is a friend and who is the enemy. As Kitra realizes, it is never too late to turn to God and trust Him. She states, “But with God, all things may come to pass.” Once she realizes she’s doing things for the wrong reasons, manipulating people to do her will, she prays for help, strength, wisdom, and healing. God will hear. You are never too far away. No matter how far you’ve gone from God, it is only one step back. Pick up this great read today and follow Marc and Kitra’s journey to protect the Strait of Hormuz! I look forward to reading many more stories by this very talented author! I received a complimentary copy of Strait of Hormuz from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

Marc Royce hits the floor running in this Davis Bunn super suspense novel. From the opening pages to the final words you will find yourself on the edge of your seat, wondering where the next turn will take you. The characters maintain their integrity from previous stories, but even if this is your first encounter with the Royce stories (Lion of Babylon and Rare Earth) you will not feel any gaps or holes because the author does an excellent job of filling in the gaps without spending needless time in backstory or jumping from the present to the past. The characters have a depth that makes them quite real. As is typical of Bunn's writing, they grow as they face their issues and questions. And while faith is an obvious theme and thread that runs through the story, it is certainly not "crammed down your throat" or preachy. Topics of past hurt along with questions of trust for the future are dealt with in gentle wooing ways that may find you questioning your own faith journey and growing with Marc, Kitra, and Rhana.  Strait of Hormuz is a story that could be ripped from the pages of current newspapers around the world. Throughout it you will not only be entertained, but educated on a culture that is mysterious and dangerous--and one that it would behoof us to know more about. When I put down the last Marc Royce novel, I could hardly wait until the next one was available. I dove into this story and was certainly not disappointed. The fast pace hooked from the very beginning. As it was coming to a close, I found myself slowing down because I just didn't want it to end. I highly recommend Strait of Hormuz and give it as many stars as I can...and then some! I was given a copy of the this book by the publisher, Bethany House, in return for an honest review.

Strait of Hormuz Davis Bunn ©2013 Bethany House Publishers ISBN 978-0-7642-1138-6 (ppbk) Marc Royce has again been called to investigate a matter that could involve the whole world in war, started unwittingly by the United States. As usual, Marc’s appointment upsets powerful government leaders, so he must work without official sanction and against numerous attempts to have him removed from the case. A mysterious caller directs Kitra to join Marc in Switzerland and save his life. As she enters an art gallery where Marc has discovered a dead body, a bomb destroys the entire gallery. The Swiss police immediately accuse Marc of murder and the bombing. The threat that Iran is shipping nuclear weapons through the Strait of Hormuz has American was ships heading that way to stop the shipment. But no one knows which ships hold the weapons because containers have been moved several times to new vessels. If no weapons travel through the Strait, the US will be embarrassed in front of the entire world. From time to time phone calls from unknown people direct Marc and Kitra how to proceed. Certain people may or may not be on their side. Who and what can they trust? Marc finally figures out the real danger and at the last moment directs the destruction of terrorists’ threats. What he learns and does surprises everyone. Like others in this series, Strait of Hormuz is fiction based on possible real world dangers. A good read.

The 'Strait of Hormuz' is an action-packed suspense/thriller that could very easily happen. In the final book of the Marc Royce trilogy ends with suspense and a bittersweet romantic nebulous up to the very last page. While still grieving, Marc is compelled to risk all, at the request of one he despises yet respects and feels totally indebted to. Although he no longer is an agent for the U.S. government, he could not refuse this man. Is he being set up? He quickly realizes it is not only his life at risk but also the life of one from his past. He must quickly try to save the other person's life! From this point on one situation leads to another. The reader is rapidly drawn into the action. I could barely put it down from start to finish! Davis Bunn successfully describes each scene, each character to the point one feels he/she is actually there. The book cover "hints" at what the plot entails but doesn't give anything away. Still, it is very eye-catching. It is beneficial to the reader to read the other two in the series, however, this can be a "stand alone" and still keep the reader's interest from start to finish. My review rating of this book gives it Five Stars. This was generously sent to me by the publisher for an honest review, which I have given.
