In the burnt-out hollow, a house of dark secrets and an eerie beauty beckon.
Serena Diaz’s life is imploding. A troubled student has accused the young biology teacher of sexual misconduct, cutting off her promising career just as it was starting to blossom. But that’s just the beginning of Serena’s problems.
When a therapeutic walk in the woods leads her to a ruined house overtaken by criminals, Serena is assaulted and finds herself witness to the senseless murder of the one man who tries to help her.
Hurled into a world of false accusations and hounded by the press, Serena must confront evil itself to unravel the mysterious visions—and terrifying danger—that pursue her. But she can’t ignore the most haunting question: Why would a mysterious stranger give his life to save hers?
The answer, if she can find it, will point the way to her freedom from evil men in a lascivious trade.

Serena Diaz is a teacher in trouble, a angry student has wrongfully accused her of sexual misconduct. To clear her mind she takes a drive to one of her favorite places, unfortunately instead of clearing her mind, she is assaulted and witnesses the murder of the man who saved her life. To add to the craziness of her situation, she is confronted with false evidence against her and strange connections that appear between the man who saved her life and the boy who is about to ruin it. What follows is an adventurous and intriguing tale that involves the sex trade and those who are trying to rescue young girls from it’s claws. As the story unfolds, Serena finds herself in even more danger, risking her life to clear the name of the man who saved it – all the while wrestling with disturbing visions haunting her. This book is a big change from all the Christian romance stuff I’ve been reading lately; it’s labeled as Christian suspense and that label definitely fits it. It’s an intense read and one that opened my eyes to just how real and prevalent the sex trade is even in our own back yards. The story is well written and kept me engaged from the first page to the last. The way she describes characters, settings, etc. really pull the reader deeper into the story with every turn of the page. I really wanted to sit and read this book from cover to cover just so I could keep up with the characters instead of waiting a day or two to pick the book up again, but I had to go to sleep sometime! :) This is definitely a book that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a good book to read. I’ve read and reviewed another one of Erin Healy’s books here and it was just as awesome, I think I need to get my hands on some more of her work! Reflection. That's what I want to do after reading this novel. I need to reflect. I need to breath and work my way through what happened, what I felt, and how I feel now. Seriously. This is an incredible novel. I've read Ms. Healy's work before, but, by far, this is absolutely the most amazing book of hers to date. Holy cow. I'm still in awe of it. Child molesting. Falsely accused people. Human Trafficking. Tragedy. So many moving, emotionally traumatic circumstances and beautifully chiseled characters. Those are the things that make up this novel that follows Serena Diaz, the Fire Followers and a teenager set to seek revenge. From start to finish this novel had me captivated. I was emotionally moved in so many ways, sometimes brought to tears, sometimes brought to anger, but always brought close to these amazing characters in a way that I won't soon forget. This author has mad skills, for sure! I highly recommend this novel to those who love dramatic reads. Books filled with characters that come to life, real life issues woven into a fictional novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This 5 star read kept me turning page after page, white knuckling the book, until the last page was turned. Erin Healy covers one of the biggest crime industrys biggest area, that of human trafficking. She continues to amaze with every page. A definite must read.
Erin Healy in her new book “Stranger Things” published by Thomas Nelson brings us into the life of Serena Diaz. From the back cover: In the burnt-out hollow, a house of dark secrets and an eerie beauty beckon. There, a stranger dies to save Serena’s life. Serena Diaz’s life is imploding. The answer, if she can find it, will point the way to her freedom from evil men in a lascivious trade. If the great director Alfred Hitchcock were still alive then I am sure he would be drawn to “Stranger Things” to make a movie out of his way. This is his kind of story. Serena is an innocent. She has been falsely accused and is out walking and almost gets killed when she stumbles upon criminals. Now she has to look into what she saw and dealt with in order to bring about justice. This is a book about human trafficking, the buying and selling of others. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to be torn from your home and sold into a stranger’s house with his wants and needs. Ms. Healy does an admirable job of trying to show what is going on. What can one person do in the face of this terrifying criminal activity? You have to read this book to find out. ”Stranger Things” is most definitely a thriller and, I would say, Ms. Healy’s best work to date. Be prepared to have your nerves stretched to the breaking point as you read this book. “Stranger Things” is a really enjoyable read that makes you root for the wonderful characters.
