I teach at an elementary school, and did not have a book for Groundhog Day. This book caught my eye. It is an adorable story about a groundhog who needs to find the right replacement for himself, since he is sick and will not be able to work on Groundhog Day.

Substitute Groundhog is a cute book about when the groundhog gets the flu one day before groundhog¿s day. So he has to find a substitute. He interviews many different candidates. She finally finds a candidate, armadillo, after groundhogs day is over armadillo takes groundhog to Texas (where spring starts early). As a student this book allows me to see what it might be like to be the groundhog. It has some ok illustrations and the plot is good, but overall a very average book.As a teacher this book would work with young students. It would be a great book for small group discussions also. The plot is nothing spectacular, but it is easy to follow and keeps you semi-interested.
