All Ages Fun! My kids are in High School so I haven't picked up a mid grade level book in a while. I loved the authors previous work and I am a comic book and paranormal fan so this book grabbed my interest. This is, as my headline says, all ages fun. I really enjoyed it. I think it is a gift to write for children yet also engage the adult readers ( be it parents, teachers, librarians, etc). This book is one of those which perform this task extremely well. This is a story about a 8 year old boy named Stephen whose life is turned upside down when his Grandmother dies. He and his dad go to her funeral and there Stephen makes a startling discovery. His dad hasn't been telling him everything about his heritage. It turns out Chef Nana is a chef for Supernormals at a hotel. His dad was exiled for a while but now returns to the fold to take Chef Nana's place. Stephen isn't thrilled to learn everything he thought he knew wasn't the case. He is uprooted from Chicago to New York City to live in The New Harmonia Hotel. The reader goes on a journey with him as he meets his friends Sofia and Ivan and solves a mystery of a stolen artifact that he is suspected of taking. The friendships are allowed to build as the story progresses which is a really nice touch. There are a lot of fun characters that we meet on the way. One of my favorites is the Elevator. This is a fun book to read with the children in your life. Or just by yourself and feel like a kid again, which is what I did. Although my teenagers were intrigued enough by the premise and plan to read it for themselves. I strongly recommend this book which is the first in a series. I'm looking forward to more adventures from Bond & Rowe.
