Overview

Our primary goal in writing this book is to share our personal journey of discovery with a new and wonderful breed: the Alaskan Klee Kai. While this is a story of our personal journey as owners and breeders, we have also gained quite a bit of knowledge and have gathered a great deal of information on this wonderful breed. We will also share many stories and experiences from owners who have adopted our dogs and from our own experiences.

Alicia M. Adams & James E. Adams

On a personal note, both of us have had long careers in nursing as Registered Nurses. In fact, we met one another working in the same Emergency Department in Northern Virginia in 1987. Over the years we have had many diverse professional experiences including Alicia's 24 years of military service which included serving in Iraq in 2006. At the time of this writing, Alicia is completing her Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree, so it is presumed that future editions of this book will address her as Dr. Alicia M. Adams.

While Alicia was serving in Iraq, Jim (the wordsmith) was at home with our 9 children and, of course, looking after the care of our other children (our dogs) as well. Over the years, a number of our children (especially our oldest son Christopher) have been involved in the care of our dogs and we deeply appreciate their continued love and involvement. A number of our children have also enjoyed being junior handlers at numerous AKC events and, in fact, we have traveled extensively with our daughter Rachel across the country as she places Champion and Grand Champion titles on her own dogs... including to the Westminster Kennel Club in New York and to the Eukanuba National Dog Show Championship.
