About the Author

Scott Jeralds has created many a smash hit, working in animation for Marvel Studios, Hanna-Barbera Studios, M.G.M. Animation, Warner Bros., and Porchlight Entertainment. His TV series credits include The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Superman, Tom and Jerry, Secret Saturdays, and more. In addition, Scott directed the cartoon series Freakazoid, for which he earned an Emmy Award.

Steve Foxe is the author of more than 20 children’s books and comics properties including Pokémon, Transformers, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, DC Super Friends, and Grumpy Cat. He lives in Queens, New York, where he thinks a lot about cats, even ones who can’t shoot lasers from their eyes.

When a boy and his dog knock a leaf loose from a plant, the leaf (aptly named Leif), begins talking and gives them a quick historical tour of plants in this volume of the graphic Earth’s Amazing Journey series (4 titles). Before delving into thematic chapters, the cartoonish Leif briefly describes basic plant traits and photosynthesis. The first chapter examines the evolution of plant life on Earth, setting the book's focus as Leif continues to describe how evolution has influenced vascular plants, seeds, and flowers in subsequent chapters. The final chapter, on agriculture, shows the progression of humans gathering and harvesting plant products over time. Illustrations resembling animation, along with interspersed real-life plant scenes, combine with Leif’s joke-filled, conversational narration to make this book especially appealing to reluctant readers.
