About the Author

Daniel Carter "Uncle Dan" Beard (1950-1941) was an American illustrator, author, youth leader, and social reformer who founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905, which Beard later merged with the Boy Scouts of America. His celebrated guides also include The American Girl's Handy Book, The Field and Forest Handy Book, and The Book of Camp-Lore and Woodcraft, all published by Godine.
