Well written and kept saying you turning the pages. Police work at it best. Hard to tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. Nice reading.

Great book. One of his best. The coauthor is really good too. They should get together more often and write. Have always loved pattersens books. Can not get enough of his books.

James Patterson has been my go-to author for years. He has never disappointed. And this time is no different. I highly recommend this book. BUT only if you have several hours to devote to reading because you will not put it down once you start.

"The Black Book" is the best book I've read in a long time! After I stopped reading for the day, I couldn't wait to get back to it the next day. The twists, the turns, the stunning revelations...WELL worth the read. I honestly didn't see the ending coming! I think I will read it again (rare for me to say about anything). I would definitely recommend this book to any "thriller" fan.

This was not one of my favorite James Patterson novels. The mystery itself was challenging. The setting in Chicago was one I am not familiar with but seemed well-portrayed. I did not like the excessive sexual thinking. While the actual act was limited, I was disappointed in the overall language and sexual content. I had hoped that, based on an Alex Cross novel I read a while ago, those were two things that were much less than Patterson’s earlier mysteries. I’m not sure if I could go back to reading the two series of Patterson’s that I liked after reading this.
The mystery was well-crafted, one in which I could not learn who the bad guy was. When I learned who really had the black book, I was incredibly disappointed. It was just too far out of line from the way the characters were portrayed throughout. Sorry, I wish I could give this a better rating, but it just didn’t get any better. The narrator’s voice didn’t sound like that of a cop – more that of thug. The whole package just didn’t match up to the hype of television ads about the novel, or even the author’s name.

I enjoyed what I read but I didn’t know it was just a sample. I’m looking forward to reading the entire book. I love James Patterson books.

I sometimes find myself not enjoying James Patterson's books unless they are from the Women's Murder Club series, so I was hesitant to read this book. The premise of a dirty cop intrigued me and I am so glad I gave it a chance. This book was so good. I was shocked even at the very end. The twists and turns kept me reading and the characters were very well written. Give this book a read if you are in the mood for a fast- paced, thrilling read!

I used to love James Patterson, his books were full of mystery and they would hold my interest until the very end....notice i said "used to." His books now are all the same, using the exact same formula, so theres very little surprise. The books starts off with a murder. Then we go back for some of the history to why that person is dead. Then...family member (cousin, sister, spouse) comes to the rescue. solving the murder and finding love.and there ya go.

The Black Book is the story of when everything goes wrong during a case in the search for a Little Black Book! Being a cop in Chicago runs in Billy Harney's family with his father being the Chief of Detectives and his twin sister, Patty following in their father's footsteps. It takes a brutal shooting that will leave his former partner along with assistant district attorney dead and Billy not remembering what had happened before the shooting.
With the story going back and forth between present day and before Billy was shot, we that everything stems from a simple drug bust that lead into even a bigger case with a missing Little Black Book at stake. As Billy tries to uncover the secrets of what had happened in those days before he was shot, he will soon discover someone close to him that is behind everything in the most shocking way to end this thriller of a read!!
I was a huge James Patterson fan just a couple of years ago but kinda felt that everything that he was coming out was more or less just the same thing over and over. This book is nothing like I have read before and it has made me fall in love with Patterson's writing all over again. The way this story goes back and forth between present day and what had happened before, really gets you into that explosive story-line that you really don't know what will happen next! I thought I had it figured out on who did what but until you read the entire book, nothing is what it seems!!
Thank You to James Patterson for writing a story that has made me become a fan all over again and I can't wait to see what is next!!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher!
