Soon she began sharing her knowledge on her website creating healthy recipes pawrents could feel good feeding their pets. Her muse, Kirby, is an energetic, playful dog with bright eyes, white teeth, and a soft, shiny coat. He has no allergies and is rarely sick. The dramatic transformations she saw in their foster dogs have been nothing short of amazing. She firmly believes "when good food goes in, great benefits shine out". This cookbook is her compilation of the diligence and extensive research she embarked upon to discover just what his body does and doesn't need to live a long, active and healthy life. Her passion is discovering new ingredients that are dog friendly and blending just the right amount of each to create something that is not only healthy but makes them drool. She doesn't claim to be a canine nutrition expert but rather a perpetual student of canine nutrition.

Reviewed by Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers' Favorite Bananaramas, now there’s a tongue twister. Sound tasty? Well, ask Kirby, or make them for your favorite pooch and ask him or her. It’s a dog treat and it is made with healthy, wholesome and very natural, fresh ingredients: oat flour, brown rice flour, egg, ground flax seed, dry milk, mashed bananas, pure vanilla extract and sea salt (not table salt as it’s not safe for dogs). “Just enough sweetness to satisfy that sweet tooth and a whole lotta goodness!” Nutritional guide included, and the would-be dog treat baker will learn that: “Bananas are very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium and manganese, and a very good source of vitamin B6.” Author Debby Martin has fostered and adopted several dogs over the years. Shocked by the increasing number of additives in commercial dog food and the increasing number of recalls, she started making her own dog food, from treats to well-balanced, nourishing meals. She’s not concerned about balancing the nutrition in her dog’s diet. After all, she’s done the research well and she successfully raised children with no health issues. The Canine Chef Cookbook is a culinary treat for dog owners. Complete with useful information on what a dog needs in his/her diet and what’s safe and not safe, this book is an excellent resource to guide canine chefs-in-the-making. Each recipe is easy to follow and includes important nutritional information as well as safe preparation and storage notes. Need to know what quantities to feed your dog? Debby gives a usable guideline for that as well. A real treasure of dog treats and dog nutrition.
