This book gives no new insights or advice. And, $11 for 72 pages is outrageous!

The "book" portion is only the first 9%, the next 2-5% are drawings on par with fashion inspiration doodles-not bad, just similar to what I would expect to find at a magazine editor office to try out different looks, and the entire rest of the book reads like an excel spreadsheet of over 1,800 lines. I wasn't sure what the target demographic here was, minimalists wouldn't use this as a coffee-table book for instance, I found the references to be highly stereotypical, from cringe-worthy "We all love shoes!" to fifty shades trilogy references. Oh and don't forget that love of chocolate, because obviously these are the only things that women could *possibly* ever think about or want as our lives are just so simple and light-hearted. Unsurprisingly for a book so condescending, I did not find it to be in any way helpful. Anyone already familiar with the concept of a capsule wardrobe, even a passing glance through an article on-line, probably won't find any new ground-breaking territory covered here. I couldn't see getting this even as a gift, because the content is so low. Read about other books I have reviewed here:

I bought this book from your New York store and love it. It's a great guide for those who want to get more confident with fashion and are looking for guidance on exactly what essentials to buy. It's not for someone who loves high fashion. I loved the table of all the outfit combinations as it has saved me lots of time getting ready in the morning! The illustrations are also very detailed and helpful. I am a sewer so this has been great to follow for my hand-sewn wardrobe.

Beauty and fashion are what I'm after! The book, The Capsule Wardrobe by Wendy Mak helps me combine what I already own or decide to purchase and allows me to make new outfits out of the ones I have with combinations. It's quite a book and a money saver too! I can use a few outfits to make over a dozen new ones! It's got styles from special occasions to everyday casual. I am a huge shoe fan, and though I do have tons! However, clothing I really don't have much room to pack my closet with, so to be able to match new looks with others is a wonderful thing. Keeping my closets spacious and my style fresh every week of the day! That is exactly what I'm getting out of this book! Honestly, what is taught in this book is how to put outfits together and once you learn it, you can do this with all the clothing you own and even your friends or other family members who may need your help. First off the book does help you figure out what to keep and toss, which is good for making room for what really is more you and stuff that could be donated to others who will use it. Next, you learn about planning and the entire planning or concept of a capsule wardrobe. Again, let me say this is just a few things you'll learn and each piece comes in handy for making the right choice for your personal style! It actually makes me curious if this is how those shows where they remake over a few audience members or behind stage guests with the right outfit for them. So at least now I'll have an upper hand to perfect my style without spending more on new clothing and enjoying what I have in a variety of ways!

If you are like me, you have a closet packed with clothes and more shoes than you care to count. Wendy Mak’s The Capsule Wardrobe: 1,000 Outfits from 30 Pieces, does what’s promised. It shows those of us that cannot even comprehend a wardrobe of 6 tops, 6 jackets/blazers and sweaters, 6 shoes and accessories and turns it into a detailed plan of providing 1000 outfits. For those who wish to downsize The Capsule Wardrobe would help provide a guideline to help provide a basic closest of clothes that will work for your life. For me, I can’t even pack for a weekend away without bring that much so I was completely intrigued by the ingenuity to create so many options out of the basics. I can see myself using The Capsule Wardrobe as a guideline for travel but not as a lifestyle change. I received this ARC copy of The Capsule Wardrobe: 1,000 Outfits from 30 Pieces from Skyhorse Publishing in exchange for a honest review.
