A great story about emotion and perspective, and how we are all a mess and try our best to do what's right. The author has a good handle on his voice and a great sense of humor throughout.

Just couldn't keep my attention.. I've read quite a few different series and trilogies relating to epic fantasies. The only reason I gave this one a chance was because it was an extra in one of those "said" series... Didn't like it at all. I'm honestly disappointed. I give it a 2 because at least it was something to read and it kept my mind active.

There was a lot to like here. The story felt a lot like that great DnD campaign you had way back when with the amazing GM and great party where everything was just fun all the time. Let me also say that I'm a tough rater and 3 stars from me is pretty good. This is a well-written story that takes fantasy conventions and turns them on their ear. I lived the author's take on elves, the thieves guild and other standards. The dialogue is also sharp enough to cut yourself on. There are times the story drags because it follows too many characters I'm and not all the characters are really enjoyable (I wasn't a fan of Gariath or Draedalon, personally), but others are interesting, particularly Kataria imo. Very solid book overall. It's the first I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last.

While Lenk wishes to live his less death enthralled life, one wonders if he has a self-destructive personality? One wonders if he realized that the grass is always redder on the other side, he would come to accept his ability to fix things by killing those who stand in his way? There is a lot of world-building in this book. So many races and creatures to ponder about while reading about a city full of intrigues. It's so full of them that one could ask who even runs the darn thing. I'm curious as to the other cities and towns, how are they run, are there stable governments? Are the demons the bad guys, or just misinterpreted? Can Lenk overcomes his self-destructive personality while having more sexy times with his lovely lady? I will find out. You should too. @hyrorizen

What a great book. The city was stained red almost immediately, the entire cast of characters was great (#TeamAsper), and the sex scenes were very steamy. And that ending! Holy carp, I can't wait to read the next one.

This book is excellent and I was hooked immediately. It is an epic fantasy that includes adventure, laugh out loud humor, love, fear, sadness, friendship and loyalty. The characters are all very well developed, and it was impossible for me to choose just one favorite. Each individual character has depth and complexity. The story shifts from character to character with seamless transitions, and the different points of view in this case are interesting and engaging rather than distracting. It has been quite a while since I read a fantasy novel, and this book has all of the elements that I previously loved about fantasy without any of the aspects that turned me off in the past. The City Stained Red is a fun escape into another world and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Sam is refreshingly fun and full of adventure and life. These qualities show in his stories. Perfect for when you want to sink into another world for a time and live vicariously through his heroes and the rest of the group. Sam has a bright future ahead I believe.
