Overview

The Counterfeit Agent (John Wells Series #8) by Alex Berenson

John Wells returns for another deadly mission from New York Times bestselling author Alex Berenson...

In an Istanbul hotel, a deep source warns a CIA agent that Iran intends to kill a CIA station chief. Quickly, John Wells is called in to investigate, but before he can get far, the tip comes true. Which means that the next warning the source gives will be taken very seriously indeed. And it’s a big one.

A radioactive one.

As the threat level jumps and the government mobilizes, Wells must figure out what’s really going on. From a drug lord’s mansion in Guatemala to a secret plastic surgery center in Thailand to the slums of Istanbul, Wells uses every skill he has—including his ability to go undercover in the Arab world—to chase down leads. But the enemy he faces is equally determined. And soon he may be too late to pull the United States back from the brink of war…

Another solid John Wells book by Berenson -- but i HATE that it ends halfway through, forcing us to wait for the sequel! Hurry on that one, Mr. Berenson!

Book ends half way through the story - what the heck??!  Are you kidding me.  Won't be buying anymore of this author as I'm not waiting around for another book to be written to complete a story no matter if his writing and story were good.

I've read all of the books in this series. This is the worst. Actually I liked all of them except this one. The story was OK, but it seemed as though they had either an amateur editor or no editor. There were many mistakes, i.e., numerous places where they referred to the wrong character. It was distracting because I had to go back and reread the passage to figure out what he really meant to write. At this stage of his career there is no excuse for that.

I have read all of the John Wells series and have enjoyed them immensely.....until this one. He is one of the few authors I will buy as a new release. This story felt very incomplete. It felt more like an introduction to his next book. I normally read books in one, maybe two, sittings. I struggled to finish this. It just didn't keep my attention. Get it used or go to the library.

A real page turner. Disappointed in ending unless a sequel is planned.

Its not made very clear that this is the start of a series. Don't start this book if you like your stories to have a resolution. Frustrating.

In places the story seemed to bog down a bit. Also, there appeared to be a very small editing problem. All in all it was a pretty good story and provided good entertainment value for three or four evenings. Recommend this novel with the above exceptions. My best rating would be 2.5 stars. J M Lydon

I have read all of Alex Berenson's books and he is a smart author with a great character in John Wells. When I read these books I always wonder how fact and fiction align in our government, with our President's actions, the CIA, etc. I hope we have some smart people doing what needs to be done to safeguard our nation's safety from a world that is increasingly more crazy every day!
