The Dead List by Jennifer L. Armentrout

When Ella is mysteriously attacked on her way home from a party, her entire life changes as she finds herself at the center of an attempted murder investigation.

Ella tries to move on, but her attacker isn't done yet. He shows himself in the form of horrifying signs and symbols: a clown mask strewn on her bed, a dead bird in her backpack, a shadow moving past her window in the night. And as the weeks pass, it turns out that Ella isn't the only one being tormented.

With the help of an old flame, Jensen Carver, and her friends and family, Ella tries to attain some sense of normalcy, but she can't seem to shake the feeling that there's a dark pattern hidden in the killer's every move. Suddenly, even those in her innermost circle seem suspicious. In her seemingly safe West Virginia town, Ella starts to wonder who she can trust.

First off Jennifer is my favorite writer! I have never read a book that I didn't enjoy! She had the best stories and love the way she expresses them! This book was no different! I would love more of this kinds of books from her. I really enjoyed this one with its thriller theme and love story all rolled in one! When I was reading by myself at times I would get goosebumps. It keep me on the edge on my seat trying to figure out who's after her and what is she trying to forget from the past! And Jensen! Omg! I just wanted to eat him up! Definitely get it you won't be disappointed!!

The Dead List actually turned into a surprise for me. I originally started trying to read this book when Jennifer had it posted up on Wattpad a few years ago for her fans. I need to say I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters for some reason. Now a couple years later I picked it up again and I am so glad I did. I truly enjoyed this suspenseful read. this is about four childhood friends who after a tragedy when they were all about 13 drifted apart. four years later at the start of their senior year of high school tragedy strikes again, a girl is missing and one of the four attacked. the tension that the author builds is believable and real. it makes you as the reader question every characters intentions. Jenson is the somewhat too good to be true love interest to Ella and was part of the original four friends. Gavin her ex who was also her friend years before. we see as readers how after tragedy and loss and growing up how everything can change. some for the good and some not so much. this is a wonderful story and I highly recommend this to any who like suspense and a good love story.

It's the beginning of Ella's senior year in small town West Virginia, and she's looking forward to a fun year of hanging out with her best friend and getting ready to leave for college in the fall. When she's attacked leaving after the leaving the last party of the summer, things change in an instant. While she was lucky and managed to escape, she was left badly bruised and traumatized. Her old friendship with Jensen, one of her best friends from childhood, is rekindled when he starts teaching her self-defense classes. When another girl from the school goes missing, and another girl is found dead, all of Jensen's protective instincts kick into gear, and he becomes Ella's instant bodyguard. While Jensen and Ella begin to piece clues together, they can't deny the pull between them that had started to spark back in middle school, before their group of friends had splintered. But with all of the crazy events happening in town, will they even have a future to explore? The Dead List had some really frightening, horror movie caliber scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The plot line had enough twists and turns that it kept me guessing who was behind the murders and disappearances, and I was completely surprised with the reveal, and it's very rare that I can't see where a storyline is going. The Dead List is an incredibly well written suspense.

I am loving this new side to JLA's writing. It's such a quick, fast read but you are in suspense the whole time. I could NOT put this book down. Definitely recommend!

Suspense, Romance, Blood and mystery! The Dead List has a little of everything. Ever since they were little Ella, Jensen, Gavin and Penn have been best friends. Inseparable. Summers were spent together as a unit. Sleepovers, treehouses, bird watching, and video games. Typical kids stuff. Until something tragically happens to a member of the foursome. Leaving the other three grieving. Fast forward four years to high school. Ella is ready for senior year. Once she graduates she's ready to head off to college and leave small town life, and the tragedy from her past behind. After leaving a party one night, Ella is attacked but manages to escape almost being kidnapped. Her savior turns out to be someone from her past. Bring up TONS of feelings right along with it. Ella begins taking self-defense classes with Jenson (SWOON!) so if she is attacked again, she will be able to defend herself. Who wouldn't want to take a sweaty, body to body class with a complete hotttie who just so happens to be the first boy you ever had feelings for?? Before long, people from school begin disappearing. One by one as if someone is checking off a list. When bodies begin showing up with signs from the past tied in. Ella begins to be suspicious of the motives behind the killer. Who would do such a thing in this small quiet town? So many twists and turns! I loved this book, it honestly kept me on the edge of my seat. Sitting up late at night wanting to get to the end so I could find out who was behind it all. Definitely didn't end up being whom I thought it would be! Would recommend this book for any YA lover who likes a little bit of mystery and a lot of plot twisting.

Creeptastic! The Dead List takes a look at the lives of four childhood best friends and how growing up starts to change their dynamic. Tragedy also strikes which leaves the remaining three friends dealing with things in very different ways. One moves on, one is riddled with guilt and the other accepts that there is nothing they could have done to change anything. Ella can't wait to go through University and get away from all the memories of her home town. She narrowly escapes being kidnapped in the days leading up to the start of her final school year and is now the center of a new police investigation. Jensen re-enters her life and she realises that she still has feelings for him despite four years apart. As more students keep disappearing, the plot unfolds into something completely sick and twisted.... I enjoyed this book, the characters were relatable and I was turning those pages so quickly to try and unravel the web that Jennifer Armentrout has weaved together. I must admit that I did figure out some of the ending but not the whole thing. I really hope we get to see more of Ella and Jensen and how they move forward with their lives together. I have purchased my copy on Amazon AU.

I am usually not a suspenseful reader. However, this book was excellent. It had my heart racing, turning pages quickly to find out WHO was after Ella and why was she on "The Dead List." Ella is a great character. She doesn't run up the stairs when the killer is after her. I absolutely loved that about her. She wants to be a fighter and won't let her first attack hold her back. Jensen is very swoon-worthy. He's so protective of Ella. Jensen teaches Ella how to defend herself from attackers. Meanwhile, they are growing closer together. But, who is out there trying to kill Ella and why? Jennifer does a great job keeping you on the edge of your seat. I love how to romance doesn't over shadow the suspense and vice versa. All in all, another must read by Jennifer L Armentrout.

Another book that will keep you guessing until the end.... I first read this story when Jennifer L. Armentrout posted it for her readers on wattpad. It was maybe like 2 years ago and as I'm re-reading an edited version of it, I realized that I had forgotten quite a few things and that made me feel like I was reading it for the first time again. Once again, Jennifer is exploring the thriller world except this time in a young adult book. We follow Ella who was lucky to escape her attacker on pure luck, but from there, the story unravels with more disappearances and deaths. What I liked about Ella’s character was that she was your typical average teenage girl that people can easily relate too, tragedy aside of course. She goes to school, hangs out with her friends and has dreams to achieve. Though in the aftermath of the kidnapping’s attempt, she has a lot of difficulty to deal with it and it also brings back a lot of memories from what occur to her a few years before. The guilt of what happened then is brought forth once more. When she meets with her counselor the following week, she asks her about taking some self-defence class because she doesn’t want to feel powerless again. These classes will force her to reconnect with her old best friend, Jensen, who was also her crush a few years back and if she was honest with herself, she hadn’t be able to forget him even though he really hurt her in the past. But it wouldn’t be a Jennifer L. Armentrout’s without a bit a romance in it. Even if it’s not the main focus of the story, you follow Ella and Jensen’s relationship throughout the book; best friends who drifted apart and are reunited through the tragedy. If you ask me, Jensen is nearly the perfect guy in this. He is very protective of Ella and though he is teaching self-defence, you can see that it was his choice, he would do anything so she wouldn’t have to use it. Each character, big or small, brings something to the story. Whether it’s huge or small, they all contribute to making this story interesting. What I also liked about this book was that everyone could be guilty and everyone was a possible victim. As the story unfolds, you try to find what connects them and even when you find a connection, something always seems to happen and make you doubt for a second or two. This book will keep you on your toes from book one as you will attempt to discover who the killer is. You might get it right on the first try or you might be surprise, but either way, Jennifer has a way to make you guessing until the very end and even then, you might have guessed right, but you never know what else you might discover that you didn't even see coming.

4.5☆ This is such an intense book! I loved the many twists and turns along the way and the constant suspense of this book. I can't even imagine being in Ella's shoes and having to go through all that she does. She's really strong to be able to overcome all that she has and still remain the same nice girl that she is. I love Jensen and everything he does for her. He's a sweet, caring, and funny guy who just wants to protect Ella from all the bad things that happen in her life. The storyline was just so good! It kept me sucked in the whole time and it was really hard to put down. I wanted to know what was going to happen next and who the bad guy was. I'm not always a fan of the then and now stuff, as well as not knowing a lot about the characters pasts up front, but it worked in this book. It was really just a wonderful read =)

The Dead List is a suspense filled read that keeps you guessing. It is dark and twisty and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Readers who enjoyed JLA’s Don’t Look Back and Till Death are sure to enjoy this one. The Dead List perfectly combines suspense with the swoon. Ella is a great heroine and what she deals with is so rough. I really admired Ella for how she handled it all. She kept trying to live her life and not let anything stop her and that is something to really admire. Then we have Jensen, and let’s be honest, we all knew I was going to love Jensen. JLA seriously writes the best guys and Jensen was no exception. He is funny and sweet and clearly cares for Ella and I loved it. And I also loved how clear he was about what he wanted. No mixed signals or hot and cold messages, because let’s be honest Ella did not need that on top of everything else she had going on. The Dead List is a fun read, even though the clown stuff haunts my nightmares. I had a great time reading along and trying to guess who the killer was. I changed my mind so many times. I was right at one point, but I was never confident enough in my guess so the book kept me on my toes. The Dead List was a twisty read that will keep you guessing throughout. As always, JLA delivered with this book.

The Dead List is a well-written captivating romantic thriller that had my heart swooning and panicking in equal measure! Read it for the romance as much as for the mystery because let’s be honest, Jennifer Armentrout writes some of the most amazing book boyfriends EVER and Jensen Carver is no exception. Where do I even begin? He's hot, loyal, honest, supportive, funny, and so, so protective of Ella and I was in love with him pretty much from the get-go. One of the things I especially enjoyed was how confident he was in himself and his feelings for Ella and he didn't shy away from articulating same. For example, see how amazingly perfect this quote of Jensen's is: “I want to be that guy-the one that when your phone rings, you hope it’s me. The one who holds your hand in the hallway at lunch. The guy who gets to hold you. I want to be the one who gets to touch you. I want to be yours.” We are told he didn't date, enjoying casual hook-ups, and while it wasn't specified I took that to mean he was just waiting for Ella to open up and let him back in and he had no genuine interest in any other girl. That only made me love him more! Ella was a great character too. A loyal friend to Linds, Gavin, and Jensen, and a nice person to boot. The opening scene when she was leaving the party showed she was a fighter, a survivor, and that only endeared me to her more. I'm going to be brutally honest -my real interest with this book was the blossoming romance and the mystery/intrigue surrounding the murderer took a back seat for me. I've seen some readers suggest this is a horror but I wasn't scared. It reads like more of a thriller to me. I never felt like Ella was in a genuine life-threatening situation and I was more invested in when she and Jensen were going to get it on than I was in identifying the killer, lol, HOWEVER that doesn't mean I wasn't intrigued because I was. I enjoyed how the past and the present intertwined even if it was a tad bit predictable. I liked the flashback scenes. I actually had figured out the murderer's identity at one point but I kept changing my mind as Jenn threw out different hooks. Love when an author has me second guessing myself and Jenn did a great job here with throwing me off the scent! That twist at the very end was brilliant because I was a bit confused wondering how it was all stacking up and then bam, that came at me and my heart was in my mouth - that was so well written. I ended up reading this in less than twenty-four hours and then I kicked myself for having read it so fast because I always do that with Jenn's books and then I'm left feeling bereft. In summary, this was a fantastic read and Jenn continues to prove she deserves to be at the top of my fave authors list. If you enjoy swoony romance intertwined with intriguing mystery and a fast-paced writing style then you'll love The Dead List. Highly Recommended. Thanks to the author and her assistant for providing an ARC of this book which I have voluntarily reviewed.
