This book is great to help find the words for emotions or body language to express them. The authors want you to see what they've found for the alphabetized list--from adoration to worry--and suggest you think of others that might reflect your character more.

There are many ways for writers to express a character's emotions, this handy book makes it easier than ever. In an easy-to-use format, the authors give examples of physical manifestations of emotion, body language, and mental processes. It helps authors enrich their prose while avoiding cliches. A terrific addition to any writer's resource library.

The Emotion Thesaurus is very useful to me. The book is organized well, so emotions are easy to look up. Each entry consists of two facing pages, so it is easy to read. I currently own 26 creative writing books, but The Emotion Thesaurus is the most helpful.

As complete as Roget's providing the entire range of emotion, the range of thoughts, feelings and actions in each emotion. Prompts succinct writing without melodrama. Use this to help trust your reader.

The Emotion Thesaurus is put together well. Suggestions are logical choices and directions for an author. I think it's especially handy and useful for newer writers. The one negative IMO was some of the suggested changes were too obvious and can be overused. I'd like to see a wider variety.

The authors describe their book as a place to start. I say, if you've already started and you're stuck, this is your jump-start. I found myself running through the various emotions, the descriptions and the characteristics given and, for me, it became something of a game. I'd imagine different circumstances and ask 'Do people really get pale when this happens?' 'Do they really laugh nervously when that goes wrong?' When I went to my favorite coffee shop, I found myself not just eavesdropping on conversations but noticing people's appearance and body language. I found myself analyzing what those things told me about the speaker and his or her emotions and making notes on how I could use that information. What I like best about the book is that it's simple, very easy to use, and it slows you down so you stop and notice the details the will make your character real. I'm keeping it handy--for the next time I get stuck.

Writers, if you only get one book, this is the one to get. We've all read that emotion in writing is supposed to go beyond "He smiled" or "she blushed". This is the only book out there I've found that actually shows you how to do that. And not only does it give you dozens of fantastic options for displaying each emotion (or how your character might try to hide them), but every page includes a tip for how to go deeper and intrigue your readers more. If you're tired of being told how to write without any way of implementing suggestions regarding character emotion, this is your book. I for one am looking forward to the installations coming out this summer! They're already on my "buy" list. :D

Works great with my particular style of writing. If you're tired of every character widening their eyes when they're surprised, and want some variety, this book is for you.

As a first time writer I needed a bit of help in the Show vs. Tell Department. This book was perfect for that. A must have for anyone in the writing field!
