The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I'd lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together-and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there's only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom-up.

Wow ... What a fantastic story. Based on the heavy emotions surrounding the topic of this story the author could have written a dark, sad story. Instead she wrote a compassionate loving story of two lost souls finding each other and their way. I fell in love with the characters immediately. They radiated warmth, love, hurt, confusion and desperation. They made me want, believe, hope, gasp, laugh and smile. From their personalities to their physical presence the author wrote all characters with spot on perfection. I'm pretty sure if you looked up swoon-worthy in the dictionary the definition would be Sam Rivers. From his rugged, tatted body, to the simple way he caresses your entire being with his words, for me Sam was a perfect character. “My body ached to hold her. To feel her. To help her. To allow her to heal…me.” Levee was such a unique character. The dimensions the author created with this character were vast, surprising and refreshing. Just when you think you know Levee, she surprises with her words and actions. “The perpetual free fall was no match for the way he made me feel. I was still falling at unstoppable speeds – only, in his arms, as his body claimed me without a single word spoken, I was suddenly falling…up.” The story is heavy on emotion. Each character's actions, words and feeling play such a critical role in fusing together what I felt was a compelling, intense, loving, heartbreaking and heartwarming story. The words demand that you feel. They capture your mind, grab hold of your heart and squeezed until you feel everything. The Fall Up is a love story, a story of faith, a story of forgiving. A cry for help and a desperate plea to feel without falling. A beautifully written story of love, hope and learning to live in the present while honoring the past.

The Fall Up by Aly Martinez is the first book in her latest series also titled The Fall Up. It is a beautiful love story told in dual POV and it will not only warm your heart but possible help heal it a little too. Sam suffered a loss and returns to the bridge each night to deal with that loss. It is his way of trying to force the universe to give him back the person he lost. Levee visits each night not quite aware that she is contemplating going over the bridge. It's not a deliberate thought but the loss she has suffered in her life and her hectic life has pushed her far beyond the limits of what she is able to handle without help. Sam and Levee meet on that bridge and their story of healing, heartache, love and loss begins. A beautiful story that was written so well it was almost like I was watching the story happen instead of reading it page by page. I LOVED it and highly recommend this for any fan of romance stories.

AMAZING from start to finish.... This was my first book by Aly Martinez EVER, so I went in blind, anticipating what I was about to read. Why haven't I read a book by Aly Martinez before?? I'm really not to sure, but after living through "The Fall Up" I will definitely be reading MORE. From the opening line "It was raining. Isn't that the way all great love stories start??" until the final words in this book I was enthralled, I couldn't put it down. Oh the subject within was a touchy, emotional, & some what tabboo, then the characters portraying this touchy subject, made reading it an easier process than what it should have been. Levee & Sam, one who's seen the struggle knows the signs & steps in to help.... the other who's so far in the dark, that the possiblity of there ever being a light, comes has a shock. Then you have the amazing secondary characters aswell, either steaming up the pages or adding some tension between Sam & Levee (not that they needed any help). I'm not going to ruin this for you, you'll need to read it, devour it, to know exactly what happens. I laughed & cried, the emotions where all over the place for me. So for my first Aly Martinez book, I must say it was beautiful, sweet, wonderful, captivating.... you get the point!!

If you've read Aly Martinez before, especially Fighting Silence/Shadows, then you already know her writing is flawless - real, poignant, emotional, engaging and captivating. She is an automatic one click for me now on the strength of those two books alone but her new book 'The Fall Up' was the most beautiful surprise because you almost missed the difficult subject matter of depression and suicide as it is interwoven so seamlessly in a story of humour, wit, warmth and romance. The pace of this story is perfect, witty banter along with heart breaking moments, an old fashioned romance all combined to give a story that made me smile almost all the way through, not too deep and raw as to be an ugly cry story, not so shallow as to be fluff, just perfect. I slide my hand down the rail to cover hers. It was a simple gesture, but it was easily the greatest decision I’d ever made. That one touch destroyed a wall. I wasn't even sure whose wall it had been to begin with - her’s or mine. But I would have spent my entire life tearing it down if I could have only predicted what was on the other side. “There isn’t a woman in the world who doesn’t have demons of some sort. No matter who I end up with, it’s always going to be a struggle.” I kissed her hair again, letting it linger as if my lips were able to transfer the truth of my words. “Levee, I’d like to struggle with you.” Sam = Panty Tsunami. Every damn word, gesture or touch he had me, total book boyfriend perfection. Flawed, damaged yet so comfortable in his own skin you can't help but adore him. My career was soaring while, personally, I was plummeting. Every single day felt like a terrifying free fall in no particular direction. I was stuck in the middle with no way up- or down. Levee is so fragile and alone, a celebrity supposedly with the world at her feet but the public and private persona are different in many ways and a chance meeting with Sam changes her life. In that moment, the perpetual free fall was no match for the way he made me feel. I was still falling at unstoppable speeds - only, in his arms, as his body claimed me without a single word spoken, I was suddenly falling… up. The humour, warmth and emotional connection between Levee and Sam is a huge part of the attraction of 'The Fall Up' but no review would be complete without a mention to Henry who is a total scene stealer and bloody fabulous! His flirting with Sam had me laughing out loud no matter where I was reading…………… “Henry stilled and peeled his shirt over his head, announcing, “Threesome.” “Excuse me?” Sam questioned as Henry advanced. “Fine, twosome, but Levee gets to watch. She is my best friend, after all.” “Henry made the shooing motion toward him. “Go ahead, hot man. Smoke your cigarette. And, before you ask, yes, I’m perfectly okay with you envisioning it’s me you’re putting in your mouth.” Laughter and light, humour and wit, 'The Fall Up' is a feel good book that will leave you smiling and wanting more from Aly Martinez.

You ever start a book and immediately realize that THIS is why you read? From the very beginning The Fall Up spoke to my heart. And it’s been beating over this story ever since. “It was raining. Isn’t that the way all great love stories start….and also usually end?” Well this is a GREAT love story, but I can guarantee it is nothing like you’ve ever read. Levee Williams and Sam Rivers meet in the most unconventional of places. There is a spark between them the moment they open their mouths to speak. Over time, their meeting place becomes THEIRS. They recognize the sadness in each other as they live with a burden. Every day. They understand the darkness within their hearts because loving someone only brings pain. Something they both know too well. “Don’t let go. No matter what, okay?” “Never.” I cannot discuss the plot. No. You must live this story. Just know that Sam and Levee’s story is inspirational and is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. As I said before you have not read this story. There are some deep and raw emotions here. Sam and Levee are two broken people with heartbreaking pasts. But they find a light in each other. Together, it doesn’t hurt so much to breathe. Life and living is possible. And love? It’s inevitable. But there are some lighthearted moments. This isn’t a cry your eyes out story per se. I’d say its a heartfelt emotional story. It’s REAL. The author places you within the lives of Sam and Levee. You FEEL everything. Their joy, their pain, their laughs. And you WILL laugh. Their banter is something special. “There isn’t a woman in the world who doesn’t have demons of some sort. No matter who I end up with, it’s always going to be a struggle…..Levee I’d like to struggle with you.” Oh Sam Rivers. How I love you. Adore you. Let me count the ways. I don’t think I have ever met a man so self-less and loving. While consumed with his own pain, his love for Levee far exceeds any darkness. His heart desires Levee. His soul forever tethered to hers. And you feel the depths of his love just by the declaration in his words. He speaks with conviction. And Levee? Her love saves. All this time where she thinks Sam is saving her? It is she who is truly saving Sam. "She wasn't the princess. And I wasn't the pauper. She was just a sad girl who liked to write songs. And I was nothing more than a simple guy who was lucky enough to have made her fall in love with him." Their love consumes. Overwhelms. Their love is powerful. Magic. Their love will captivate you and question love and just how much it can take. But their love endures. It overcomes the darkness. It fights through the pain. Their past? It just makes their love stronger. It solidifies everything their love stands for. This isn't an easy love story, but it's theirs. “From the moment I first met you, you made the world lighter." The Fall Up truly demonstrates the versatility of this author’s writing. This is different than her other novels, but equally as brilliant, if not more so. It was such an honor to experience the heart stopping ,breathtaking love story of Sam and Levee. A love that faced it all. A love that didn’t see anywhere to go from being at the bottom..but up. This was easily one of my top reads of 2015.

“It was raining. Isn’t that the way all great love stories start? The Fall Up follows the story of Sam and Levee. On the outside, Levee is living the life. She’s famous and has tons of money. But on the inside, she’s screaming. She’s tired and overworked. Somewhere along the way, she’s lost sight of what’s important and has lost her way. That’s how she finds herself at the bridge every night….Sam Rivers is the gorgeous tattooed stranger. Armed with cigarettes and his own demons, he also finds himself at this bridge. While everything is “fine” in Sam’s life, he’s looking for more; he’s looking for greatness. Stumbling upon Levee was the last thing he expected. Each night the two of them end up at the bridge, both of them searching. Sam never leaving, until he makes sure that Levee is safe. The two of them for an unexpected friendship and bond. Until one night, they decide to go out for dinner and take their friendship to another the level. As the two of them get closer, Sam quickly sees that Levee is not as “fine” as she leads on. Will Sam be able to save Levee or has Levee already lost the battle and hit rock bottom? The Fall Up was a quick read for me. I devoured it in less than a day. I was so intrigued by Sam and Levee. They both seemed so lost. I just wanted them to be able to find some light. One of the things that I really liked was that the author wasn’t afraid to tackle some very tough issues. I thought she handled them very well and these issues only intensified my need to know more about these characters. So, even thought there was a lot of heavy issues, there was also some lightness, some laughter and most importantly, there was love. Fans of Aly Martinez, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one! * I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

Levee and Sam are two strangers that met on the same bridge every night. Good story that doesn't disappoint and handles mental health in a believable way. Love doesn't mend everything but it sure helps.

Beer and Chicken never tasted so sweet! The Fall Up is a romance between people from very different lives. Sam is a character that is sweet and lovable. His protective nature, kindness and sense of humor make him irresistible. Levee is a character who is struggling. She has a kindness that is admirable and a vulnerability that is relatable. Although this book deals with some very heavy situations, the story itself is quite sweet and does not carry a heavy tone. There are hot moments, sweet moments, parts that that had me laughing out loud. It was a very good book, I enjoyed Sam and Levee's story a lot!
