The Gift of the Seed: An Easter Parable
An Easter parable written and illustrated by award-winning artist Kate Lee.

This tender and beautifully illustrated picture book introduces readers to a new parable about a small boy who plants a simple seed, unaware of the extraordinary journey that seed will take. As the tree and the boy grow, the reader learns that the boy is Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, who is now a grown man sharing profound acts of love and kindness with others.

But when the tree is cut down and shaped into Christ’s cross, it believes its purpose is over. On the morning of the Resurrection, however, it witnesses a miracle, and all things are made new, including the tree. With stunning illustrations and a heartfelt narrative by Kate Lee, The Gift of the Seed invites children and families to reflect on the powerful message of Easter—that through sacrifice comes redemption, and through faith, life blooms again. This parable will inspire readers of all ages with its timeless message of hope and renewal.

About the Author

Kate is a watercolor artist who is known for her minimalistic-style paintings of the Savior.

Kate is married to her best friend, Mike, and together they have two boys, Jackson and Cooper. They have lived in Layton, Utah, for the past twelve years and love being close to the mountains.

Kate is not only a watercolor artist but an avid mountain biker, hiker, and adventurer. She and her little family try to soak up as much nature as they can. Being outside helps Kate feel grounded and more connected to heaven. Some of her greatest inspirations have come because of the time spent in nature.

Kate loves people and feels that she was blessed with a six-foot wingspan to hug those around her and help others feel the love God has for them. She loves her Savior and His gospel, and she hopes to spread light as she goes throughout her life.
