What People are Saying About This

Bill Hayes

A good writer doesn't just go out and do research on the biker world or start right out asking a bunch of questions. No. It doesn't work like that. Not here. You need to talk to people; get to know them. Show respect. Lisa Petrocelli has done just that in The Gloves Come Off. It's a great and intimate portrait of the best lifestyle there is!

Bill Hayes author of The Original Wild Ones, American Biker, and The One-Percenter Encyclopedia.

I love this book! Lisa lets you in on the biker life style from the inside out. I enjoyed getting to know the men in her book as she separated the “man from the myth.” These men are strong in there brotherhood but still take the time to help others and deal with life on life’s terms. I feel like I got to know a great bunch of people in her book in an honest and truthful way! She tells it like it is! So glad to see a book about bikers written from a woman’s point of view. I recommend this book highly. Support is not just a word in the biker community. As a biker of 20 years I can tell you she is honest in her writings and did a wonderful job! Just buy it and you will not be disappointed! Mary Ellen aka Emi

What an aweome book - I would highly recommend this to all bikers but mostly to the non bikers - just to get a feel of who we are. The people she interviewed in this book are just amazing , their lifes, inspiration - but especially a bond of brotherhood. Not only did they open up - but Lisa as well - the jounrey she has taken in such a short time, the friendships and commitments. Great Job !!!!

The Gloves Come Off allows the reader an intimate, insider's perspective of the lives and passions of fifteen well known and respected members of the biker community primarily in and around upstate NY. The book is written in a captivating and easy reading style, interlacing each of the subject's open and honest responses to 20 varied questions with segments of biker history, culture, lore and personal observations. Lisa's ability to obtain and pen their open and honest responses comes from her spending years learning about, befriending and eventually being accepted, trusted, loved and respected by various members of a number of the MC's. Once I started to read The Gloves Come Off, I found it difficult to put it down until I finished it - in part because I am friends with a couple of the bikers who's lives were opened up for us to see - but also because it is a good, honest and sometimes raw look into the sides of bikers lives that are rarely displayed - their pains, fears, passions, loves, challenges, successes and failures. Well done Lisa, Well done. Love and Respect!

“In her new book, The Gloves Come Off, Lisa Petrocelli takes readers behind the secretive curtain of the biker lifestyle to discover that the American biker is much more than the bad boy image portrayed in films, on TV and in books and newspaper articles. The book offers fifteen road-worthy biographies showing a true cross-section of the motorcycle riding population, from the hardcore Leatherneck, the original Boozefighter, and the one-percenter patch holder, to the biker as caring father, loving husband, and true brother. As one lifelong biker tells us, “Its not just what I do, it’s who I am.” Many books have tried to give readers an idea of what it is like to live, eat and breathe motorcycles, but The Gloves Come Off really delivers. These bikerographies come straight from the heart and that heart beats to the thunderous rhythm of a Harley-Davidson.” ---Dave Nichols, Editor Easyriders & V-Twin Magazine, Paisano Publications, LLC

Lisa Petrocelli did a fantastic job writing this book! I couldn't put it down! When she wrote about the trips she took with her husband, I felt like I was there. When she talked about the friendships among bikers, I related. I admired her honesty when she wrote about discrimination towards bikers. I liked how she chose such a diverse group of men to interview which made the book so interesting. I hope she writes more and more. I can't wait until her next book. This one is the best I have ever read!
