Twenty-eight years later, and Charlie has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself — the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again — and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized — Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won't stay buried forever…

Outstanding, maybe her best yet, and that's saying a lot. She is one very talented author, however her books should come with a warning: Once you start reading be prepared to lose sleep, as you won't stop turning page after page!!! Highly recommend!!!!

I have read many of your book. Your characters r strong and Handel adversity well. My major complaint with this book is the EXCESSIVE use of the F... word. It is not necessary. The other complaint is you were somewhat repetitive at times. I think u r a great writer and will continue to read your books.

Start to finish this book was amazing. Perfectly written, characters that jump off of the pages at you. I laughed, I cried, I bit my nails in suspense, I could not put this book down. To date, Ms. Slaughter's best work, I am sad this book ended.

The 1st book I have read by Ms Slaughter and did enjoy. I liked the style; the back and forth in time and version of events between the two sisters. A horrific tale of events and how they shape so differently these two strong women. I did figure out the situation in the current event right from the get go. The past event was quite a surprise to me. I recommend as a good read. JDL 11/29/17
