Overview

Join Buck O'Neil through this first-person narrative from his childhood dreams to the famous Field of Legends. Follow him on his journey from backyard games with rag balls, to playing baseball with the Kansas City Monarchs, to becoming the first Black coach in the major leagues, and more. His numerous awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor given to a civilian. Buck's biography dovetails with the celebrations of 100+ years since the formation of the Negro National Leagues. This is the debut in a series of sports biographies for children.
