It all started with a woman and a lighthouse. The House that Adelia Built spins a tale full of love, lies, and betrayal at the hands of a man Adelia calls Augustus—her own husband.
In the late 1800s, Augustus finds a job as lighthouse keeper on a beautiful, but isolated island. He can’t wait to bring his new bride home to the lighthouse, set on majestic bluffs, which have laid claim to many shipwrecks.
Augustus soon suffers from the effects of self-induced isolation, as Adelia watches him slowly lose his grip on reality until he turns mad, bringing forth dire consequences.
Meet Hope, a modern day quiet, quirky young woman with a case of agoraphobia—or so it would seem. She feels an inexplicable pull toward the lighthouse and the bluffs beyond. Hope struggles with her internal battle and seeks to find the truth about her unsettling, recurring nightmares. Maybe then she can discover why she has always felt so alone and unusual.
Enter Clooney, a handsome, unassuming stranger who soon becomes so much more to Hope. The very woman who has guarded her heart in the past will soon find herself wrapped in a web of denial, leading to a heart-wrenching reality.
For every truth she exposes, more heartache is found. Hope must come face-to-face with her worst fears as she uncovers the mystery surrounding her spellbinding connection to the lighthouse.

The House That Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley is a paranormal romance book. I love this author and her writing style. She flawlessly tells two stories parallel to each other but one story is more sinister than the other. Mya O’Malley is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors. This story has it all from romance to betrayal. With the story of newlyweds Augustus and Adelia and their new life. It was to be perfect a new job and home on a beautiful Island but that all goes horribly wrong. Fast forward to present day Hope and Tracy are best friends living on the lighthouse grounds and giving historical tours to tourists. For Hope that is all she needs until she meets Clooney and there is no denying the instant chemistry there, but she is haunted by this vivid dream and she is driven to find the truth.
The House that Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley was a fantastic read! I could not read this book fast enough, making this a one sitting book was not a problem at all. O’Malley writes this book like two different books, going from present time to the late 1800’s, which normally can be confusing but the story lines were so closely intertwined that they worked in congress with each other. The twists and turns in this book between Hope, Clooney and then Adelia and her husband made this such a page turner. I wanted to see Hope find happiness but the mystery behind her night terrors and visions kept me on the edge of my seat. The House that Adelia Built is my first foray into O’Malley’s writing, and she blew me away. I can’t wait to get more of her books. She has created a super fan with his book
The House That Adeila Built by Mya O'Malley is a story about mystery, romance and ghosts. This is not my first story by this author but I will say that it is my favorite of hers yet. Her writing style is such that it just pulls me in right from the beginning. Her attention to details make me feel like I am right there with the characters. With this story it is like reading two different stories in one book. She switches back in forth between the present and the past but she does it in a way where I didn't get lost or confused of where I was. There are a few main characters in this book and they are lovable and connectable. They will pull at your heart strings one minute and the next you will feel compassion for them. They will take you on some twists and turns that will leave you questioning and wanting more. This story revolves around a lighthouse. The first couple moved there after they were married back in 1800. After awhile he started changing and she was confused on why. Present day: Hope is a woman who is a little lost and has low self esteem. She is having nightmares at night and is not sure what they mean. When she starts investigating why she is having these dreams, what will she uncover? There is something about the lighthouse that has drawn her to it. She can't seem to stay away from it for long periods of time. Will she uncover a connection to the lighthouse? She also meets a man who they spend quite a bit of time together. What will happen when they start developing feelings for each other? This story reveals lies, betrayals and heartbreaks and will take you on a journey of heart and sadness. This group of characters lives are intertwined easily and they will keep you guessing at what will happen to them next. I enjoyed seeing both stories the past and the present. Their characters are strong, determined, and have been through a lot. What will happen to them as fears are faced and an attraction to this lighthouse is revealed? This author did a great job of intertwining them together and made the story flow. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see if there is a happily ever after in this story.
The House that Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley 5 Stars Ummmm, what did I just read?? Well, not just, because I finished the book about 2 hours ago and have been trying to figure out how I feel about what I read, and I've been visiting her profile so I can figure out how many more books I'll be downloading since I will be reading every single word she has written. I'll start by saying I absolutely with no doubt about it, loved this book!! It was written beautifully and read just the same. It was like having two books in one and I dont think Ive ever read a book with one story current, and one in the past that I've enjoyed as much. The creative way this author led this story was spot on, and the twists came just when I thought I had it all figured out..Perfect!! I'm confused because I don't read these kind of books, and right now I can't wait to see if her other books are as hauntingly addictive as this one was. The characters were described in a way that I felt I knew each one of them. I loved Hope, Clooney, Devon, Tracy, and Adelia..The way their lives weaved together was nothing short of perfection. I love lighthouse stories especially when there is a mystery to solve and adding in a case of agoraphobia made this book one of my favorites of the year. I will not go into any detail regarding the storyline, it is something you must experience without me trying to summarize it, just know that you have to read this story it is amazing and it ended not at all like I thought it would, but exactly how it should have. Loved Loved Loved!!!
