About the Author

Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus (c.69/75-c.130), was a Roman writer and biographer belonging to the equestrian order in the early Imperial era. His most important surviving work is THE TWELVE CAESARS. Other works by Suetonius concern the daily life of Rome, politics, oratory, and the lives of famous writers, including poets, historians, and grammarians. Suetonius even completed a work on prostitutes, LIVES OF FAMOUS WHORES, now lost. Aside from THE TWELVE CAESARS, few of Suetonius' writings have survived.
