The Mating Ritual is about Gideon who is the Crimson Wizard; we’ve met him in previous books in this series. No worries, it is a standalone however I’ve been following these characters since the beginning and have been waiting for Gideon’s story. Ms. Vanak weaves a ‘tale of olde’ along with what is happening to Gideon now. He has lost his powers while helping a fellow wizard. There is much for Gideon to learn about life, both mortal and immortal, as well as how to actually “be” again. In this story he is charged with marrying Alia to keep the truce in the Seelie and Unseelie worlds. Alia is the key to Gideon’s world but the story is about how they both discover each other’s true nature, and that love, can conquer all. Great to catch up with these wizards! The Mating Ritual will take you on a wild journey of love, intrigue, treachery, and forgiveness. Mostly, it is the awakening of love for both Alia and Gideon.
Gideon loved Eleanor, but she was killed to keep him from having her. He vowed that he would love no other ever again. His heart will always belong to her. Gideon was being punished because he shared his magic with another wizard. As his punishment, he loses his powers and he is to marry Alia. That will unite the kingdoms and bring peace. Alia must kill Gideon after they are married to save other women in her kingdom. Something terrible has been happening and it is getting worse. The women are treated badly and used as slaves. As Alia gets to know Gideon, she isn't sure that she will be able to kill him. But she has to to save others.
