In "The Mission Driven Hospital", Dr. Chris Bart offers us his vast expertise on mission statements for health care providers, and more specifically hospitals. Developing a mission statement is an essential practice for organizations and even a crucial part in the development of strategic planning, but in many cases, when put into practice, mission statements are very often overlooked, forgotten or misunderstood. Drawing from the rich history of mission statement developments, together with Dr. Bart's experience and research of almost 500 hospitals, this book provides an essential guide for hospital Boards and CEOs to make the most of their mission statements and ensuring that it drives the very essence of the service that each hospital provides. That is, to provide the mission statement the real reason for which it was created, providing organizations, and specifically hospitals, with a guide and focus in order to achieve its goals. Apart from the fundamental basis that the book provides, several chapters are also dedicated to the analysis of case studies, which allows for a much better understanding of how to put the concepts expressed into practice. As the foreword states, it is truly a must-read book for every Hospital Board Chair and CEO.
